  1. I live outside of Philadelphia but I am noticing that a lot of the local supermarkets are starting to carry more and more gluten-free products.
  2. I was just doing my regular food shopping at the local Giant last night when I noticed one of the employees stocking Pamela's mixes on a new shelf. I stopped him and asked if they happen to be getting more gluten free items in. He turned to me and told me this was just the beginning. That is seems that gluten free food is a new, very popular request that...
  3. Caramel coloring in a product made in the us is fine. vanilla is gluten-free too. they thought it might not be because of the alchohol but it is distilled so that is fine. I drink Starbucks vanilla lattes all the time with no problem. I actually just had one this morning!
  4. Did anyone find/try these yet? I really need you guys to try them. They are that good! Would also be great to use as a substitute for graham cracker crumbs for a pie crust. YUM!
  5. I don't have DH and didn't worry about gluten-free makeup or hair products until I started waking up every morning with my eyes crusted shut. I looked at my shampoo and sure enough it had wheat protein in it. I had been using MAC makeup but then I had my makeup done by the woman who is going to do it for my wedding and she used most of my makeup but a little...
  6. I found out that Bare Escentuals is sold at Sephora stores. I am so excited. Going there this weekend to buy new makeup!
  7. Is there such a thing as a Bare Essentials store or do you have to order everything over the internet?
  8. I was in Whole Foods the other night and I saw new "Animal Cookies" made by Environkids. I am no longer a kid (28), but I must say that I love the gluten free foods made by Environkids. These are called Animal Cookies and they come in all different flavors but the only one that is gluten-free is the Vanilla one (says gluten free on the front of the package...
  9. I used to be a huge cereal fan before having Celiac, but I have to say that the Amazon Frosted Flakes are AMAZING. I love them. They taste like regular cereal. Just bought 5 boxes at Whole foods and they also carry them at my local Giant.
  10. I have been eating at Carrabbas on a regular basis but I had a bad experience the last time I went. I got the Mama Maria's chicken soup and asked for no pasta. I checked through it before eating it and didn't see any. Then after my 3rd spoonful I found a small piece of pasta. The manager apologized but that was it. I actually wrote an email to Carrabbas...
  11. I was diagnosed by an edoscopy and blood tests, both of which were positive for celiac. My doctor did not give me the exact outcome of the tests but he told me that my villi were completely flat and extremely damaged. There is hope! Don't give up. I have never cheated (intentionally that is), had a couple accidents but that is it. I am extremely careful...
  12. There is a local support group that meets in Abington, PA a couple times a year. I joined but I do not remember the name of it. I will look into it tonight (if i remember) and get back to you. I went to one meeting when i was first diagnosed and it was very helpful.

    ARCHIVED Foods You Miss

My top foods that I miss are pizza, chinese food and hoagies. I use wheat free pizza crusts but it is definitely not the same. I attempted making my own General Tso's chicken, but again, not the same. I think what I miss most is the convenience of just going somewhere and grabbing a slice of pizza or a hoagie.
  14. Well, I am happy to say that I just got the results from my endoscopy and blood tests. I have been gluten-free for almost one year and the doctor said I am completely healed!!!! I was SO excited. All this research/work paid off. My blood tests were all negative for celiac also! So, I am just letting you all know that it is very possible. I go out to...
  15. I would definitely suggest getting a blood test for Celiac and/or an endoscopy. You definitely have some of the common symptoms and it can't hurt to just make sure. The endoscopy isn't bad at all and if it turns out positive, you can just follow the diet and get rid of all of those unfavorable symptoms.
  16. I would offer to answer any questions that you may have. I feel as if I have been through a lot in the past year since being gluten-free. I know a lot from calling places and doing research. I am sure there is a ton of stuff I don't know, but feel free to email if you have a question or just want to chat!

    ARCHIVED Foot Cramps

I have Osteopenia so I take 3 calcium supplements a day and also drink a lot of milk and eat cheese constantly. I am pretty sure that I got tested for Diabetes when I was diagnosed with Celiac and the tests came back negative. I am having another endoscopy tomorrow so I will ask my doctor then. Let me know what your doctor says!
  18. Hello! Just wanted to see if anyone else got frequent foot cramps? I have been gluten-free for about a year now and I have realized that I am constantly getting horrible foot cramps. Just wondering if it has anything to do with Celiac. Would love to hear your thoughts/opinions.
  19. I go out for sushi ALL the time with no problem. You can have any type of the raw fish, except for the imitation crab meat, the eel (cause the eel is made with soy sauce) and the tamago. I always just bring my own soy sauce and have never had any problem at all. I would have to say that I have eaten sushi at at least 10 different restaurants and never...
  20. I too am complete opposite. I have been gluten-free for about 10 months now and recently I have not craved sweets at all. I used to have to have dessert after dinner every night and now I don't even think about dessert. Very strange.....
  21. Does anyone know if Grenadine (the red alcoholic stuff that makes drinks taste good) is gluten-free?
  22. This is wonderful! Thanks!
  23. Yes it is!
  24. I am at the age right now where all of my friends are getting married. I am shocked that noone suggested actually calling the place where the reception will be held and asking if they can accomodate you. These places deal with food allergies all of the time. I have done this for the past 3 weddings I have gone to with no problem at all. The staff was...
  25. If it makes you feel better, I actually had a hernia a couple years ago (before being diagnosed with Celiac). So, you are not alone. The surgery wasn't too bad but I was in some pain afterwards. Good luck!
