  1. Hi laughs - welcome to Canada. Unfortunately, I'm in TO not too close to Montreal... but... at the risk of starting a scandal, if you find yourself stuck, the McDonald's fries in Canada are still gluten-free. You can find a copy of a statement they issued on the Cdn Celiac site. Open Original Shared Link Not sure how old you are??? But, Quebec is famous...
  2. I confirmed with OB that the chicken seasoning is safe BUT the waiter did tell me that many gluten-free customers had asked without the seasoning. Another possible CC?
  3. As always! Thanks so much for the ideas. I will try them all! Today is a better day - we have survived another glutening but I want to be ready for the next time. Have a fun & healthy day!
  4. Sorry if this has been posted before but I read many many posts and couldn't find any suggestions. My son can go many months without an accidental glutening but inevitabley it happens. This last month has been tough as he's been glutened 3 times! (I think he's trying to "self select" his food and doesn't have the experience yet to find those hidden glutens...
  5. I had to come back because my son had better advice. "Tell her to have ice cream."
  6. Hi Basha, Congratulations on being gluten free - glad to hear you're feeling better. My son (10) has been gluten free for 2 years. (He'll proudly tell you that Feb is his anniversary!) Most times he handles the disease better than I do but sometimes he just has to feel bad. I think the grief is necessary and then you brush it off and move on. Daniel...
  7. Hi Romeo, I'm no doctor (ha ha - a little celiac humour) but my understanding is that lactose does not damage the villi. What can happen is that non-diagnosed celiacs are often mis-diagnosed lactose intollerant. For example, the damaged villi makes it hard to digest the lactose. My son had been diagnosed LI for many years and after a couple months of gluten...
  8. So I had a wonderfully supportive call from Outback headoffice who assures me that a)I did use the menu correctly and b)an individual location would not change the ingredients. He did suggest speaking with the manager to ensure the kitchen is aware of cross contamination. I don't think I'll take them off the safe list just yet but I will be more diligent...
  9. To the Canadian's - New York Fries! They are in almost every shopping mall and are gluten free and never share oil. Some Wendy's have dedicated friers - I ask everytime at the one we go to.
  10. Thanks for the info. My son (gluten-free for 2 years) goes through bouts of absolute starvation (even after dinner.) He can finish the Drover's platter at Outback and a Choc Thunder! I thought it was boredom (or love of food). Thanks for the education.
  11. Welcome EMS! Another Cdn here. I'm just outside Toronto. If you haven't done so yet, check out Kawartha Bakery - it's close to Peterborough and worth the short drive! There's a bakery that makes fresh bread, cinnamon buns, meat pies, etc. (I buy them at a health food store in Whitby shipped from Lakefied.) ALSO - they have a small restaurant attached to the...
  12. Thanks guys. Outback has phoned me but we haven't connected yet. I will make sure I'm using the menu correctly and see if we can figure it out. I had originally given up on them but think I will try a new location. (The one we had the problem at was York Mills and Leslie.) Luckily my son is symptomatic as soon as he is glutened so we can atleast try to track...
  13. Has anyone else had an Outback problem? This has always been one of my stand by's (birthdays, etc.) The last 2 times we've been in Toronto my son has had serious gluten reactions. We're very careful to explain his needs and we order from the gluten-free menu. I sent them an email but no response. I'm hoping it's just this location. Thanks!
  14. Fox and Fiddle on Danforth in Toronto has gluten-free pub food. It used to be owned by a Celiac. I called tonight to make sure they still have the menu even though he isn't there anymore and I was told yes. They have fish & chips, bbq chicken strips, etc. (They use a dedicated fryer.)
