  1. My keyboard doesn't type like that. It's all greek to me.:lol::lol:

Είναι όλα τα ελληνικά σε με!:lol::lol:

Eenay ola ta elleeneekah say may!

(in case you ever want to say "it's all greek to me" in greek!)

I had to get the language installed on my comp when I was taking greek to do homework...on the rare occasions I would do it :P

  2. DONNA, hold on a minute! My brain is fuzzy today, so my long-term memory isn't functioning well. :P

Aqua is Latin for water, not vater. Now I'm wondering if vater may be Greek, which I never studied. I'm going to do some research online. I know that Wasser (The W is pronounced V.) is German for water, and Vater (V pronounced F) is German for father. You probably don't care by now, but I'm curious.

    Cissie

Modern greek for water is ύδωρ which is pronounced (forgive me, I'm in the throes of some major brain fog) uthor or eethor

I haven't spoken greek in over a year, so it takes me a minute

  3. Yes, the whole family can enjoy it, and are likely used to rice pasta by now. Also, tinkyada tastes about identical to wheat noodles, and also has the same texture. My husband eats them without complaint :)

The cutting board is another precaution. With wood, gluten can hide in the cuts of the wood made by the knife. Washing helps, but you can't be too sure, or too careful. Using a tupperware lid would work just fine, and there are also disposable cutting boards out there that you might find at the grocery store. You can find cheap utensils and collanders at the dollar store as well to guard against cc. :)

There aren't varying levels of celiac, but different levels of sensitivity. Whether one has symptoms from it or not, any gluten can be damaging. Research shows that it takes as little as 1/38 of a slice of bread to cause damage.

  4. I agree with Natalie. I think there are extra precautions you can take, though. Make sure you don't mix anything with a wooden spoon that's used for gluten cooking, don't use your collander, use a disposable foil pan (and you won't have to worry about getting your pan back), don't use a wooden or plastic cutting board that's been used to cut bread, and don't use a scratched teflon pan.

A great thing to make for them would be gluten-free lasagna, just use your favorite recipe and use tinkyada lasagna noodles, just make sure you only cook them half-way before assembling the dish. Here's my favorite lasagna recipe from allrecipes.com:

    INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

    1 onion, chopped

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

    1 teaspoon dried oregano

    2 tablespoons brown sugar

    1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes

2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste

    12 dry lasagna noodles

    2 eggs, beaten

    1 pint part-skim ricotta cheese

    1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

    2 tablespoons dried parsley

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded

    2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    DIRECTIONS:

In a skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef, onion and garlic; drain fat. Mix in basil, oregano, brown sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add lasagna noodles, and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, or until al dente; drain. Lay noodles flat on towels, and blot dry.

In a medium bowl, mix together eggs, ricotta, Parmesan cheese, parsley and 1 teaspoon salt.

Layer 1/3 of the lasagna noodles in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover noodles with 1/2 ricotta mixture, 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese and 1/3 of the sauce. Repeat. Top with remaining noodles and sauce. Sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese over the top.

Bake in the preheated oven 30 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

It looks hard, but it's really not. Just use the rice noodles in place of the regular ones. It also freezes beautifully :)

  5. Oh good then - I'm not totally losing it - lol! GMA has not replied to me and I doubt they will. I have to go through Sara's show I guess to try and get to her. I don't watch her so does anyone know what her food network show is called?

It's called Sara's Secrets Open Original Shared Link

And the contact info... Open Original Shared Link

  6. I'm outraged!

They probably think she was just trying to get out of eating since she's there for an eating disorder. How dare the dietician say that Rice Krispies are safe! Tell her to call the company herself and ask them!

I agree, call your lawyer and have him call the highest up in the hospital you can get. Get pictures of her rashes! TAKE THEM DOWN! She's in a friggin' hospital, her care should be their primary concern, especially when the treatment revolves around food

  7. Here's Ben & Jerry's policy on gluten-free flavors from their website:

    Question

Do you have a list of your gluten-free flavors?

    Answer

We do not have a list of gluten-free flavors. Sorry! The ingredients that we use change quite often. We do not want to claim a flavor is gluten-free, then have that list become outdated and the recipients not aware of the latest changes.

Ben and Jerry’s has a very proactive approach to addressing the concerns of gluten-restricted and other food allergic individuals. We work closely with all of our ingredient suppliers, including packaging, to verify all ingredient components. This includes those ingredients in natural flavors, colors and spices that would be a concern to persons with sensitivity to gluten. We ensure that this information is then included on our product’s ingredient label.

If our product contains gluten, its presence would be indicated on the label by the words “wheat flour” or “flour.” Should any of our products contain those grains (wheat, flour, barley, oats, rye, etc.) the label would reference them. We understand that there are tricky ways that gluten can be missed. We assure you that we have researched our ingredients carefully, and we know exactly what is going into our ice cream.

Ben and Jerry’s is a member of the Food Allergy Network and the Food Allergy Resource and Research Program. Upon the advice of these consumer and industry groups we do not provide a list of flavors that do not contain gluten. There is always a concern with any list that the list would be replicated and the end recipients would not receive updates that would be required with a formulation change. The safe approach recommended by these organizations is to read the label each time a purchase is made. We are very sorry that we can not provide you with a list. Recognizing that reading food labels can be time-consuming and tedious, we wish to encourage you in your daily effort to read all food labels, as it is the best way for us to insure that you receive the information you need to make an informed and confident choice.

On their website they also have information about how to avoid cc in scoop shops. :)

  8. I would love to adopt, but I could never give up a child for adoption because I would be afraid of the home they were going to. My dad and his brother (twins) were adopted into a very wealthy, but crappy home. They were both into drugs and alcohol and both died of complications of both within 8 months of eachother. I need to contact their birth parents, but I don't want to have that conversation:

"Um, hi. Remember the twins you gave up in college? Well, yeah, they're both dead from substance abuse, and I never knew either of them. By the way, do you have any autoimmune diseases in your family?"

Good for those who have adopted, though!

Sorry corn intolerant folks, but I just made some yummy caramel corn. I don't think I let the caramel boil long enough, but it's stil yummy yummy!

And I took some benadryl for the hives again <_< So I'm on my way to bed. G'night!

  9. Got done with my running around... phew.. and I did run, I was worried I'd be so behind in reading this post

Now lets see what was everyone talking about? Oh yeah, tampons  what comes to mind here is my phobia of "proper" words .... I can't say "menstration" and the rest of those.... I get SO embarrassed... now I can say the "slang" for everything and I have no problem. I think the sex ed teachers messed with my psychie when I was in 5th grade  Tony has no problem saying any word <_<

I used to be, and then I taught my scouts about menstruation, and the rest of the birds and the bees stuff. We're talking from the egg to the kid to the adult to pregnancy...and how pregancy happened. Yikes! I stumbled over some words, but it turned out just fine. I got lots of compliments from parents about it, although they asked me why I wouldn't answer their kids' questions about masturbation

Hey, man. I talked about everything else, you can deal with that one! :o

Good luck, Rachel! I look forward to reading about your ovaries!!! :D

  10. My DH got over his embarassment real quick when I had an emergency need for monistat. He's also been sent out for emergency OTC UTI meds, emergency phazyme, and emergency pregnancy tests. He's also present at Sam's when I buy tampax in bulk

    He's a good kid :)

Sunday marks one year of marital bliss!!!

Personally, I got over the embarassment of buying tampons/pads when I was old enough to need to buy condoms

  11. I've put on 20 lbs in the last two months on this stupid gluten challenge, on top of the 35 I already needed to lose. This is not good <_<

Anyway, I've decided to start Weight Watchers at the same time I go gluten-free again, and DH will too (he hates that his clothes keep shrinking  ). I do have many questions that I can't seem to find many answers for, it's like a cult! You don't know what's in the ritual kool-aid without forking over all your Earthly possessions...

    - Is it easy to lose the standard 2-4 lbs per week?

    - How do points work exactly, and what the heck are activity points?

    - Do you prefer meetings or online?

    - What happens at meetings? What's the benefit?

    - Flex plan or core plan?

    - What all is on the core plan?

    - What foods have 0 points?

    - Is it easy to do gluten-free?

Please help, I fit into hardly any of my clothes anymore! Of course, it's another month and some change before I'll be on the diet, and I'm not dieting at all now. I'm eating all the gluten crap I'll never be able to eat again, so I'm allowing myself to gain the weight knowing it'll come back off gluten-free, and that I'll never be able to pig out at taco bell again. Cutting out entire categories of food, and all fast food certainly helps dieting!

I'm proud of myself though, I did almost 20 mins on the Gazelle this morning. I'm anemic so it kind of wiped me out a bit, and thankfully I didn't work my heart too hard, but I've recovered!

    Much appreciated. :)

  12. WHAT???? so there is still hope for me? (44 years old)

Now that I'm gluten-free and not drinking, I think that my, um, selection process for dating candidates will be MUCH healthier than before...... but I had totally ruled out having children....problem is, I really want grandchildren!!

Be a girl scout leader/somehow involved in a boy scout pack/lead for campfire/YMCA...

Personally, I have 12 little girls, all 9-10 years old

Just me, but my girl scout leader was at my graduation and was invited to my wedding. Instant kids without all the trouble of childbirth and diaper changing :P
