I make gravy the same way I always have with drippings. With ~2 Tbsp drippings in the pan, I sprinkle ~2-3 Tbsp gluten-free flour mix (I use brown rice flour-2 parts, potato starch-2/3 parts, and cornstarch-1/3 part) over it and cook that over medium heat for about 2 minutes, and then I add the liquid (milk, in my case, I have a different method for brown gravy) and whisk together, and constantly stir until boiling and thickened. So far, it's worked great!
For brown gravy, I make a slurry (cornstarch and water mixed together until smooth) and add that to the liquid and drippings and cook and stir...

All (or nearly all) of the OTC (non-herbal) sleep remedies are benadryl (diphenhydramine hcl) packaged differently.
It's the "PM" part of the TylenolPM, etc. Simply sleep is benadryl.

Hmm...personally, I don't think I'll be feeding my kids gluten until they're old enough not to be gummy with wheat. Ever try cleaning up a toddler that's been eating cheerios
? The stuff gets E V E R Y W H E R E!!! I don't want a hazmat suit to be able to hold my kid, ya know?
Nobody needs gluten

I recoiled in terror when I saw the InStyle looks for fall....
Holy hell, 1986 here we come!

It depends entirely on your family and how they feel about that kind of stuff in general. I'm spectacularly lucky as I have not had any family members doubt me (my mom was wishy-washy for a while, and then she stayed with me whil I was on my gluten challenge
). It really is a crapshoot.
I wouldn't put up with that from anybody, especially not someone living in my house. She doesn't have to eat the food you make, but she had better not bring food into the house! Mom's are a pain sometimes, good luck!

I think that medium-sized shells might be the best bet, actually - Wonder which brand tastes the most like wheat pasta and keeps a good consistency when reheated? So far Tinkyada is my favorite but i don't know if they make shells
Tinkyada makes shells, I have some sitting in my cabinet right now. They also make big shells (for manicotti), penne, fusilli, elbows, linguine, spirals, and mini shapes...

That sounds perfect! I will definitely try that. Nope, no knish recipe - But I have an honorary uncle who owned a knish bakery (yes, that's all he made!) for years and I will eventually try to get the recipe from him.
To answer the other poster's question:

I nearly had a heart-attack when I saw they compared Knishes to Hot Pockets, though! Oy gevalt!
YIKES!!! I would never put knishes in the same category as hot pockets...EWW!!!
A knish bakery...how cool!

All of the recipes on there look good...I love Jewish food!

No, you cannot eat spelt. Spelt is wheat. Just as gluteny as wheat.
No, you cannot eat small amounts of gluten to lessen your reactions. It only takes a crumb to set off the self-sustaining, autoimmune response.

Can anyone confirm this? I need to be positive...
btw thanks moongirl!!
The only way to confirm is to call the company yourself. You never know when other people called or what they were calling about.

Well they are readily available on the black market
if you like em so much....
Half joking... If Im going to get all drugged out then I'd rather have a more traditional anaesthetic who's effects are well known for thousands of years..
I didn't mean in the fratboy punch
There are plenty of fun drugs out on the black market, Versed is just one of them. Hell, there was a big to-do about people overdosing by putting on too many fentanyl patches, that they were obtaining illegally anyway. Idiots.

The effects might not be directly gluten related but I wonder if they are celaic related.
Considering most people don't have strong reactions to most perfumes (or people wouldn't wear them) I find it more than coincidence so many of us suffer from perfumes and so many suffer more when glutened or before gluten-free Diet
That makes sense, what with a hyperactive immune system. When a system is always on high-alert, there is always a threat. I think it can be celiac related, but I highly doubt the culprit for perfume reaction is gluten.
I get nauseated going through the bread aisle of the supermarket or a bakery (the storefront, not the kitchen), but I know that's psychsomatic.

Personally, for me, anyway, I like the amenisatic drugs. In my case, they were used in conjunction with fentanyl, so I wasn't all there anyway. The doctor explained that they still needed me awake so that I would be able to follow commands (swallow, cough, etc.). I know that they don't necessarily require these drugs, and that if someone has an objection they don't have to use them, not that most people would think of that. For my first endoscopy, I remember some of it. For the second, I remember none of it. I do not like that the doctor speaks to you about what happened directly after you're wheeled out...I don't entirely trust my husband to pay close enough attention

There are plenty of irritants in perfume, it's pure chemicals. Anyone with a nasal allergy will likely have a problem with at least some perfumes. The esters are pretty potent chemicals. I, like Richard, seriously doubt it's gluten related.
-
I have that reaction to both eating wheat and using hair products with gluten. I guess I developed an allergy. Like you, it would come and go, get really bad, and then usually leave in an hour. Benadryl usually kept it away.
I had 3 months of rashes while doing my gluten challenge

I was thinking a gluten-free pizza dough might be the right consistency.
OK, I hereby make a promise: I WILL figure out a way to make us knishes. You have my word. It may take a while, but I will do it!
Chebe is a whole line of gluten-free bread mixes made from tapioca flour that are actual doughs, not batters. I make pizza with them often. Do you have a recipe for knish that you used to use, and if so, may I have it? I'll try, too!!!

I'll be the high-heeled girl

so i got the enemas at the store 2 fleet saline ones.. on the box it says not to have more then 1 in 24 hours but the doc office told me to do 2 and they even told me to take 1 and while thats in me take the second...... wtf am i really supposed to do?? i dont wanna hurt myself doing something i was not supposed to do
also the directions say to take a laxative tonight it says to take one thats like ex-lax or milk of magnesia.... what is gluten free? i got to have it in 2 hours and i cant figure it out
Again, DO EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DOCTOR TOLD YOU TO DO!!! You have to take two because you're not trying to go after being constipated, you're making your colon squeaky clean and photo-ready.

My MIL glutened me once, while I was staying at their house. She tried really hard, so I took my drug cocktail, and clammed up. I really wish I would have told her, it would start the learning curve sooner.
-
I wonder if you could use thinnly rolled chebe bread dough for the dough? Mmm...knishes are so yummy! I would try it, but I don't have a good base recipe...
-
Meal plan? You mean they actually try to dictate exactly what the students eat?
Yep. Deep fried, gluten-filled, pre-packaged crap. At a massive premium. For the longest time I thought it was the dining hall making me sick, until I moved off-campus and didn't have to eat it anymore.
-
They don't give a damn about your health, they just want your money
Take it to the Dean of Students. Trust me, it comes in VERY handy to be friends with this person...
-
Chebe is a great product, and they acutally come out as an actual ball of dough that you can knead and not a better. Jen is right, that would work great!
-
They will probably give you versed, which is an amnesiatic drug, meaning you'll be technically awake, but you won't remember it. Seriously, you won't, that's the purpose of the drug. They'll probably also give you either demerol or fentanyl (both are very safe pain meds). You'll be very comfortable and won't care that someone is sticking a camera up your butt.
-
They should be. Read the label - any gluten will be clearly listed as wheat, barley, rye, or oats, since Jello is owned by Kraft.

Yep, there is a reason I keep a potent can of air freshener in the bathroom at work. I do several mercy sprays before and after the event
