Oh Darn!
I have some of that right now in my freezer that I just bought! It sounded good- because of the nuts and all...
YUCK!!
I love the kinnikinick Tapioca Raisin one that I have already started. It is fabulous. Reminiscent of a challah bread or sweet bread with raisins. Love it!

thanks so much everyone for your positive thoughts!
I have been struggling lately- I was hospitalized with what was thought to be a bowel obstruction, (would have been my third in six months) and had an allergic reaction to compazine. That was a week and a half ago, and since then, I have been feeling awful.
Just really hypoglycemic- sooo shakey and yucky. Like i'm going to faint and my heart palpitates. Does this happen to anyone else?
The doctor is having me check my blood glucose (I have a glucometer) and I have been getting the wierdest readings.. fasting -when I awake my sugar is 80, then, after I eat breakfast my sugar is 79, right before lunch it is 80, and right after eating 75. All of these are low- normal is 90-120/ So I'm wondering if there is something up with my pancreas, or if any of you are chronically hypoglycemic too.
thanks

Hello All-
I have posted before explaining my situation. I am a cancer survivor who for ten years has been dealing with pain, nausea, osteoporosis, neuropathy, diarrhea etc.... The doctors had blammed it all on the treatments (chemo, radiation) and now I finally have a GI doctor who just diagnosed me with Celiac.
He said that I am "Clinically Celiac". He doesn't feel like he needs to do a biopsy. My blood work was so borderline low before, and after a while on the gluten-free diet, it was fantastic. I mean, my white count which always hovers around 2.2 (normal is 5-10) was up to 3.5. Pretty cool!! He found that my actual celiac tests were not positive, but he said that it was because I had been gluten free for a while. He wants me to just try a gluten diet for a week or two to "firm up" the diagnosis. He said that if I feel awful on gluten, then we will know for sure.
Anyone else diagnosed with out the biopsy?
Thanks in advance.

Try the kinnickinik Tapioca Raisin Bread. It is delicious- and as a former baker I am REALLY picky about my breads!
It toasts up really well, and with some butter on it, it is just amazing.
Would make really great french toast as well.
I am so impressed with it after having such a horrid experience with Bob's Red Mill favorite bread mix- yuck- tasted like metal.
Have a great day everyone!

Wow- this is good-
I had made some Bob's Red Mill gluten free cereal (you know the kind with sorgum, buckwheat, and brown rice?) yesterday.. I had a bit left over.
SO i formed it into patties with some splenda and dried cranberries and then mixed in some coconut. (Walnuts would have been awesome too - but i didn't have them in the house). I sprayed a pan with butter flavored cooking spray and then fried the patties almost like pancakes- but a little bit thicker. I let them get really brown and crispy.
Drizzled with Wallababy maple yogurt these were the best gluten free thing I've had so far!
Maple syrup would be really good too.
Enjoy!!

Wow!
This is wierd...
I was diagnosed reactive hypoglycemic about four years ago after a glucose tolerance test. Aren't those the worst?
I have so many episodes, and i try so hard to balance my meals, I guess that when you aren't absorbing correctly though, nothing is going to make a difference.
I am so glad that I'm not alone in all of this.

What just amazes me is that almost everyone here has hypoglycemia!!
Why do you think that is?
I get so shakey and nauseous and wierd-feeling if i don't eat every three-four hours.
It came on just over a year ago- don't know why.
Any insight?

This is so interesting for me!
Finally people who eat as much as I do!!!
I am so used to hearing people talk about just picking at salads and cutting out carbs (I live on carbs
)
My days lately have been like this: (and they definitely need more variety!)
breakfast:
Homemade peanut butter granola (which I just found out on this site I really should avoid-even if the oats are uncontaminated) with soymilk and walnuts
Lunch:
Two or three rice cakes with peanut butter and fruit and a stoneyfield plain yogurt
usually in the afternoon I have some chocolate covered espresso beans! and maybe some more yogurt or fruit or some nuts
Dinner:
Baked potatoes with beans and salad
or brown rice with cheese and salad
Lately I've been making my own corn chips with corn tortillas and making homemade nachos.
Yum!!
If I'm hungry at night I eat fruit or rice cakes with hummus or some nuts.
Can you tell that I love nuts and peanut butter?
I need more variety...
I also drink a cup of coffee every morning. Can't start the day without it!

Hi Dani-
No problem at all!
I think that your dietitian sounds great! Yes- you either want an R.D. or an LDN. Both are licensed and educated and will be able to help you alot.
I have lots of clients who fall into the same cycle that you have- whether it is from food intolerances, or just being on a diet (which is usually the cause). Any time you are depriving your body of something that it was so used to, it is going to call out to you for those old foods. It can become really difficult.
If you want to email me- please do-
you can send me your email address and I will send you mine.
Good luck with everything!!

Hi There-
I am new to the boards- but I am a dietitian, and I am also being tested currently for celiac.
My advice to you would be to make sure that you go to see a licensed dietitian- it is really important- just because there are alot of people out there who call themselves dietitians or nutritionists without really having the training. You want someone who has experience in the area of digestive disease.
Private nutritionists can now take health insurance if they are licensed, and if I were you, I would go see a private dietitian. Lots of personal attention and time.
If i can answer any questions for you- let me know.
Take good care,
Rebecca

So as a newbie here, I am just learning so much from all of you.
I know what I should be having (I'm a dietitian), but I would love to know what your "typical" menu looks like.
What do you eat in a day?
Thanks

Thanks so much for the Oat feedback.
I am now so sad that I have been making big batches of granola with them and eating steel cut oats. Both are from Bob's red mill, so I assumed that they would not be contaminated.
But, alas- it looks like I am going to need to find a different breakfast option.
I was such a cereal eater all my life, and I miss my bran flakes, granola and grapenuts. What can I eat for breakfast?
I had a horrible experience with the life is good (is that the brand name) Berry Granola. Horrible- tasted like plastic... THen I tried Bob's Red mill gluten free bread- YUCK!!! I have been a bread baker my whole life, and this tasted like metal to me. I could not even take a bite. I had to spit it out. i tried to put peanut butter on it, but it was so bad...
I do like rice cakes, and eggs, and I did buy some gluten free hot cereal. But what else do you all eat in the morning?
I like to have a pretty big breakfast in the morning. So fruit won't cut it.
Thanks so much

Thanks so much everyone!
You are all a wealth of knowledge.
SO, I have been trying to stick with the gluten free diet very consistently. The only thing that I am really confused about is the oat conundrum.
What is the consensus on that around here?
If I buy from Bob's Red Mill is that better than if I bought Quaker?
Or should i avoid them altogether.
I have been eating them, occasionally-
Just want to know if I am doing things the right way!
Thanks

Hi everyone!
My name is Rebecca and I have been reading the posts here for a few days..
I am 29 years old and a stage 3c uterine cancer survivor. I am ten years out! Yay!
The amazing thing is, about five years ago, I had a surgery to remove my gallbladder and since that time, I have had the WORST GI issues.. I have had constant diarrhea, gas, bloating, innability to gain weight (I just made the 110 mark and I'm SOOO happy!) etc.. I was dx with B12 anemia, peripheral neuropathy, and severe osteoporosis. ALL of these things the docs believed came as a result of my chemotherapy and radiation, but they were baffled by the fact that the symptoms came on so late.
I also have complained of a lump in my throat feeling for the past two years, had iron def. anemia, and constant flu-like symptoms. This summer i was hospitalized twice for bowel obstructions (which they believe were due to adhesions).
WOW- so sorry to rattle on there... I don't mean to sound like a complainer- just wanted you to have a background.
So I decided to try a gluten free diet for the past two weeks and OH MY GOSH!! I feel so much better! Now, that is not to say that I don't have some bloating occasionally- but no more diarrhea, and my bones feel less achey.. It's amazing.
So yesterday I had my first appt. with a new GI doc, and he immediately started asking me questions about celiac after looking at my elevated liver enzymes and pancreatic enzymes and hearing all of my complaints.
Another big thing for him was my red hair and blue eyes i guess. What is that about? I told him that my family is Eastern European and he said that he would not even need to do a biopsy if the bloodwork came back positive.
So needless to say, I'm a bit overwhelmed, but also kind of glad that there is something that I can do to fix myself.
I am just not sure after being gluten free for two weeks if my bloodwork will come out positive. Do you think so?
I am really looking forward to talking with everyone here.
Thanks for giving me a place to share and connect

What's Your Favorite Cereal?
in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

Should I give the Enjoy Life Granola another chance? I tried the berry flavor, and to me it tasted like cardboard-or metal, or even worse! I couldn't even stomach one bite..
I would love to find a granola that I can eat- any other recommendations? Is the cinnamon flavor much better?
I do love the Panda Puffs- though I find that they make me hypoglycemic. My favorite thing lately is Bob's Gluten Free Hot cereal with vanilla soymilk, walnuts and coconut! Then the next day I form the leftovers into patties and fry them in a non-stick skillet and drizzle with yogurt- they are fantastic!
Or i just eat brown rice and an egg for breakfast- boring!
thanks for everyone's suggestions- I'm going to look for some of those cereals.
