ARCHIVED Ef Educational Tour To Costa Rica 2012
chawk310 posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
My 12 y/o son will be traveling with a group of students to Costa Rica in early 2012. They will go to San Jose, Arenal region, Monteverde, Carara, Sarchi and back to San Jose. I have managed and controlled his diet for the past 8 yrs (even pack his school lunches). This will be his first trip without "mom" along and overseeing his diet. We have traveled... -
We'll be traveling to Grand Cayman Island with our 10 y/o who is gluten-free. We plan on packing gluten-free non-perishables but wonder if any of the restaurants have gluten-free pizza? Also, do any of the grocery stores carry gluten-free products? I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Carol

Why is it that companies who use barley malt in their cereals and other products do not list gluten as an allergen? -

I cannot find a store yet in the North Atlanta area that carries Ian's corn dogs. Does anyone know where I can find them? -
And on that note.... I hate it when I send my 6 y/o son to school with a sack lunch, and he cannot go thru the lunch line except for milk. I try my best to send him with a lunch he will like, but sometimes it doesn't go the way you plan. For instance, this morning, I sent a Hershey's chocolate kiss for dessert............ and I saw it in his lunch bag this...

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
chawk310 replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You are so right, Karen. I never thought about what you said before I posted. I will now take a stance and get on the phone with them tomorrow and tell them that I will boycott them (I have two boys who love McDonald's - one who is gluten-free) until they change things to make the ingredients to make the fries gluten-free. I know that everyone has different... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
chawk310 replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Perhaps McDonald's were not told or did NOT ask about gluten ingredients. Now that it is a law, the supplier is letting them know that there could be wheat in the products used to make the fries. As I stated above in my post, NOTHING has changed with their ingredients..... McDonald's now has to report if there could be wheat in a product due to the law... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
chawk310 replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just got off the phone with McDonald's Corporation. He was kind enough to inform me that their supplier has stated that all of the wheat and dairy proteins have been removed but could contain remnants. NOTHING has changed in the ingredients, but they have to state "wheat" in the ingredients because of the law that took effect in January 2006. My son... -
I will be making bread more often now that my son is going to school. I have looked at a few stores for a bread slicer, but I cannot find one. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I can get one where I can adjust and slice difference thicknesses? Thanks.

Does anyone have a recipe for the batter to make corn dogs? I have a 4 1/2 yo son who loves them but hasn't had one since diagnosed in December. Any help would be appreciated.

ARCHIVED Tortillas
chawk310 replied to LisaP's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I took an interest in this subject since I use corn tortillas for my son. I usually spread peanut butter on it or place some bologna on it, and he rolls it up. Being somewhat new at this and having thought they were gluten-free, I pulled them out of the refrigerator and looked again. To ease my mind, I went on their website (the La Banderita corn tortillas... -

ARCHIVED Gf Canned Spaghetti, Etc
chawk310 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been looking for canned spaghetti and/or other canned gluten-free meals to take on our vacation next month. Someone was quite helpful and gave me the name of My Own Meals which I plan to order from and take with us, but I was wondering if there are any canned goods out there? I would like to have a few other things available for my 4 y/o son when... -

ARCHIVED Pre-packaged Meals
chawk310 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Our family will be travelling soon, and I wonder if anyone has found a store/internet site, etc., where you can purchase ready made meals that can be microwaved. I want to have some handy for my 4 y/o son and hope there are some out there that he will eat. (kid friendly) Thanks for your help!! -
I need some help. From the beginning of dealing with my son's recent diagnosis of celiac disease (since late Dec '03), I have read to stay away from products with MSG. Now I am confused.... the book, "Gluten Free Diet... A Comprehensive Resource Guide", by Shelley Case, states that MSG is okay. Other literature I have read state that MSG should be avoided...

We purchased a Zojirushi BBCC-X20 bread machine recently, and it turns out a good loaf of bread. It makes it in a rectangle - just like the store! (Gluten Free Pantry Favorite Sandwich Bread Mix is our favorite so far). I got the recommendation on machine from this web site. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Does anyone out there happen to know if Smarties are gluten-free? I am very new at this and cannot find if some of the ingredients are allowed. I want to put these in the goodie bags for my son's birthday party tomorrow. Thanks.
