Thanks for your offer- I might be taking you up on that! Overall I've accepted, its just hard that most people don't know what it is or understand the need to be really vigilent. How long have you been gluten-free for? Heather which school do you go to? I go to EMU, I just transferred here this semester from Central. I heard about that food fair and... -

I think thats an awesome idea and would definately be interested in it if there was something like that in my area...where are you from? -
Hey guys I'm relatively new to this and kind of struggling, but I've finally accepted the need to be gluten freee. I don't know anybody else who has celiacs, or even anybody who knows what it is. Makes it kind of difficult, and itd be nice to have someone to talk to who knows what its like.

Thanks for your replies. I'm actually in a dorm thats set up like an apartment...I have my own kitchen, share a bathroom with one other girl, and share a kitchen with 2 people. I lived in a dorm last year with a meal plan, so I know it could be a lot worse. I guess its just hard cuz they always have pizza (and theres a cake sitting on our counter right now...

ARCHIVED Can't Figure This Out..
lisaemu replied to lisaemu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think IBS is kind of a crap diagnosis too..seems like dr's will automatically just label someone that if they cant figure out whats going on (at least 3 of my aunts, me, and my sister are classified as having IBS). What is ELISA? -

ARGH I don't know whats wrong with me..I had been sick for a while and came across this site, and I realized I had a lot of the symtpoms for gluten intollerance. So I cut out gluten for the past 2 months and was just starting to feel good..then I went to Tennessee this weekend with my mom. The second day there we went to a buffet at Dollywood..and EVERYTHING... -
ARCHIVED Favorite Shopping Place?
lisaemu replied to lisaemu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah I'm the same with Trader joes- I'm not as impressed with it as some people seem to be. I go in for one or 2 things that are cheaper there than whole foods, but only cuz its 2 minutes down the road from whole foods (so I go to both when I shop). Is wild oats just like whole foods? Whats safeway? -
ARCHIVED Favorite Shopping Place?
lisaemu posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi I was just wondering where people prefer to shop. Personally I love whole foods(tho it tends to be expensive..) and trader joes (and glad theres one right by my school!). We don't have a wild oats around here tho. -
Is mylanta gluten-free?

FYI..Not sure who has a Qdoba's (mexican food) by them, but I just went there with a friend a few hours ago. They list on their website common allergens and which of their products inclue them, and it includes gluten. Definately should have checked before I went there...but its nice to know that companies are putting it out there.

Any good Dr's in southern Michigan that you know of, preferably around Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti or Westland?

How do you deal with the gluten-free diet, and the multiple other intolances most of you seem to have? Im glad that knocking out gluten seems to make me feel better so im sticking with the diet...but my stomach seems to be so sensitive that no matter what I eat, it hurts. I know in the beginning the stomach needs to heal and people suggest eating a very basic...

Hi anybody know if propel is gluten-free and soy free? Specifically the new ones with calcium added? Theres a lot of weird ingredients, and it could be that...but I am feeling soooo sick right now and was doubling checking it was a gluten incident.

So last night I ended up in the ER..definately not how I was hoping to spend the night. I've been having stomach problems for many years, and the current bout of stomach pains has lasted a month or so. I've realized recently that I can eat wheat or soy, so im trying a gluten free/soy free. However, last saturday I went to my moms house we bought a rotersie...

How long were you in culinary school for? The tasting the food thing is the problem- even when I cook at home I need to make sure the flavors taste right and pretty sure almost nothing I'd make in culinary school would be gluten or soy free! Right now Im so sick of food tho cuz everything seems to make me feel like crap...so maybe I'll put off culinary school...
-
I was jsut curious on your thoughts...I currently go to a university, but planned to dually enrolled at a local community college for the culinary program next fall since it has always been my dream to have a restaurant...but now I'm finding out that I most likely have a soy and gluten intollerance. Do you think there would be too great of a risk being around...
