  1. My gastroenterologist office just called and left a vague message about writing an order for me to get 2 vaccines - they didn't specify which ones. Any idea what they would be for and why? I was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago (by biopsy and blood test).
  2. My understanding is that there is not really an increased risk for colon cancer in celiacs - primarily small bowel problems.
  3. [Thanks for sharing the recipe. At the moment, I need to be satisfied with buying them ready made (no time to bake) and the price wasnt' horrible at my store - $5 for 4 muffins.
  4. Over the weekend, I tried Whole Foods Gluten Free bakehouse blueberry muffins (in the freezer at my store) and they were great! Would have never known the difference from regular ones!
  5. I've thought about that, but what exactly does it mean? Obviously milk and cheese are out, but what about things like salad dressing, butter, etc. How far should the exclusion go? Thanks! quote name='covsooze' date='Apr 21 2006, 12:58 PM' post='129732'] Hang in there! It will definitely get better Peolpe with celiac disease often have problems...
  6. You are right Nicole, and I have thought about that. At the moment, my gastro symptoms have hardly improved at all since going on the gluten-free diet. If it is still the same way in July, I"m not going to worry about a bite. However, if I am feeling better by then, will most likely skip the cake quote name='NicoleAJ' date='Apr 21 2006, 11:34 AM' post...
  7. Congrats! I am getting married in July and am newly diagnosed. The reception is buffet, but I"m going to ask the caterer to prepare a special plate for me. As for the cake, my doctor told me to go entirely gluten-free, but said to me "I'm telling you to have a few bites of cake at your wedding". I know the purists would disagree, but it's a once in a...
  8. Anyone else have continuing problems with gas, despite being gluten-free? I've only been gluten-free for 3 weeks, but am wondering if this part will ever get better!
  9. Just curious - how long were you gluten-free before you started feeling better? quote name='BERNESES' date='Apr 20 2006, 12:58 PM' post='129227'] I love jnkmnky's thread about the best advice you have ever gotten from this board, and I was thinking, you know, there really are a lot of positives about being gluten-free (and sometimes newbies don...

  13. Acutally, it was the first bread I tried. Not too bad, a bit sticky but not as crumbly as some, taste not bad either. Worth a try!
  14. Does anyone know of a good gluten-free frosting/cake icing? If not, any good recipes? Thanks!
  15. I think alot of it is the feelings of living with a chronic illness, and the unpredicatbility of it. Research shows that feelings of a lack of control can contribute to depression. I can relate!
  16. I hear this used to refer to significant others, spouses, but what does it stand for? (can you tell I'm new?)

  20. Amanda, I am 38 and was just diagnosed by biopsy and transglutamase (sp) blood work 3 weeks ago. No problems until this past January when I over-indulged on junk food - haven't been the same since. I haven't totally eliminated the dairy but need to do that It's very hard to find all the gluten sources, I know I'm still accidently getting it. Even my...

  23. How are those Van's waffles? I bought some but haven't tried them yet!
  24. I know just how you feel. I was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago and feel really depressed, along with the fact that after going gluten-free, I'm not feeling any better. Also, I am planning my wedding for July, and am telling myself that the bride and groom never get to eat at those things anyway! So, I'll pack my little wedding purse with a few snacks!! ...
  25. Hi everyone, I was just diagnosed with celiac about 2 weeks ago, and have been gluten-free since. However, I think I'm feeling worse! The diarrhea seems to be worse, cramps, I feel exhausted, etc. Has anyone else encountered this? I've avoided all gluten, but am aware that there has probably been some accidental glutenings. However, it has to be close...
