ARCHIVED Cereal Question
granny replied to JacobsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Barbara, I went out of town today, where I can go to a health food store and found Barbara brand cereal in lots of flavors. I didn't remember anyone here mentioning them and was going to ask about them. Have you tried other flavors and do you like the other flavors? The HFS owner said they sell a lot of it but I like to stay with recommended stuff.... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
granny replied to emma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for mentioning this. I'm 59 and have been sort-of kicking myself for not healing quicker and figured I must be doing something wrong. I try so hard to be gluten-free but sometimes it feels like a loosing battle. I was dianosed in Nov. 2003 and still have lots of problems. I am an active person altho I often have to kick myself into gear because... -
I mistakenly posted my last message twice and this is an attempt to correct it. Sorry about that. Granny

Stef, Thanks for the recipe. I don't have a potatoe press but it sounds so neat. I was just thinking mashed potatoes till you said that wouldn't work. I'll check with my daughter and see if she has one-she has more goodies than I have. The recipe does give me the idea to use a little potato starch in my potato patties instead of rice flour next time...

HI Stef, I'd love to have your recipe and I'm sure the others would too. My husband was asking me the other day if I'd found a dumplin recipe yet with gluten-free four. Thanks in advance. Granny

Richard, You are writing to people who suffer from foggy mindedness and maybe I'm worse than most. I've wondered about this and was eager to see what you had to say because I usually admire your knowledge, but honestly, you didn't tell me a thing. What do you mean, "top right allergens" ?? granny

ARCHIVED Awesome One Bowl Chocolate Cake Recipe
granny replied to MichelleC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, DO you mean that you can use applesause in equal parts for shortening? I've always used 1/2 applesause and 1/2 shortening. It would be great to use all applesause as my hubby won't eat any sweets because of the fat content. He use to eats sweets all the time and I'd love to be able to bake for him again! granny -

laurie, I agree with all that judyo5 said and would LOVE to hear your story. I can't imagine having this disease 30 yrs ago!! This site saved my life as I felt so isolated from the REAL WORLD and have gone thru major depression several times since my dx. But, each time, this site was here and everyone was going thru something similiar and it helped me... -

granny replied to Born2run2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dessa, I'm so sorry you and the others are having such a hard time right now. I had a rough time before and during Thanksgiving but since then have been doing well, emotionally. ARCHIVED Do I Or Don't I Have Cd?
granny replied to mikedj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I love your anology and want to add that the smoking anology doesn't fall apart, (as I see it) if you quit smoking. I was in that boat! Family history, heavy smoker for 40+ years, I didn't believe that I could improve. After the celiac disease hit two years ago, altho I went gluten-free a year ago, I just couldn't cope. I was too far gone with the lung... -
ARCHIVED Help With Canned Beans!
granny replied to seeking-wholeness's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just read this and out of curiosity decided to check the can in the trash. We had Bush Chilli beans over a baked potato for supper, with grated cheese, picante sauce, onion, YUM!! Loose stool this morning, and guess what. ING: Water, Prepared beans, Wheat Flour! 3rd Ing. I read somewhere that Bushes was gluten-free and didn't check the label. Keep... -
ARCHIVED Gf Cream Soups?
granny replied to CindyK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cindy, I have tried the Progresso Cream of Mushroom and love it for cooking. Progresso plainly lists if it contails wheat, soy, etc. Mushroom is the only gluten-free Cream-of soup I've found locally so can't say on the others, but I've really enjoyed having this option. I don't dilute it because it's thinner than the old standby's from the past, but it... -
Hi Welda, I was just glad to see you post again and then sorry to hear you're having trouble. I hope you're back on your feet soon. If anyone can be, it's you! My thoughts and prayers are with you. Good Wishes, granny

Yankee, Does the Actonel hurt your stomach? I was put on Fosamax and it hurt my stomach so much that I quit it. I know I need something but I still have so many problems that I dread starting the Fosamax again. I've seen the Actonel advertised and wondered about it. Thanks for any help. granny

ARCHIVED Dreaming About Forbidden Foods?
granny replied to deedee1022's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been gluten-free for a year now and my dreams have only started recently. It seems that my rebelious streak comes out in my dreams. In dreams, I realize that I shouldn't have the bread in my hand, and then it's like GR-R-R and I take this hugh bite! But, as long as it's only a dream, it doesn't hurt! granny -
Hi Connie, Thanks for the new recipe!! I haven't been baking much bread lately but went by the bread isle today at Wal-Mart and nearly had a heart attache. It smelled SO Good!! I have to take time to bake some. I've been taking care of my MML, who moved here in July and then had a stroke. She's doing well but it does take time and I've had trouble...

ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Is Upon Us
granny replied to darlindeb25's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HI and Welcome!! We are all in the same boat here and I think that's what makes this board work so well. Last year, there were a Whole Bunch of us who were Newbie's and we all survived the holidays by depending on eachother, the board, God and family and friends. I live in a small town in OK and don't know of another gluten-free person till I cross the... -

Congradulations Burdee!!! I wish I could say the same!! I was doing fine in the weight dept. till I stopped smoking in March '04 and started to eat candy in place of cigs. Now I've packed on 25 lbs. I also rationalized the candy ie, " at least I'm not smoking", but now it's time "get it off". I had lost 30 lbs prior to going gluten-free but I had to...

Hi Judy, It is amazing how easy it is to miss a post--I totally understand. I did continue to take the Ambian since I was going thru a really stressful time. I am sleeping better but still have problems with the D. Sometimes I wonder if it will ever get better but then I remember how much I've improved and I'm grateful. I have a lot of depression and...
