  1. I used to buy the gluten-free breads etc but have pretty much given up. Now I substitute rice, bananas, potatoes, etc. Is there a chinese food store near you? They have a lot of rice products that are pretty cheap - reice crackers, rices sheets, etc. I also find rice pasta at my local grocery store. Much cheaper than the health food stores, and better, too
  2. Trouble is, they usually say that when they want to go somewhere like Italian or Chinese where you can very easily get glutened by salads, too.
  3. Hi I had real problems with hypoglycemia before being diagnosed with celiac. It did not go away as a result of the diet but it is a lot less bothersome.
  4. Well. I have to say I disagree with this. My mother had chronic illness which severely limited her activities, but it didn't lead to me having a miserable childhood. On the contrary, I had both more responsibility and more freedom than most of my friends and felt priviledged as a result. My brother also had chronic illness, and we had to give away our dog...
  5. Greek is one of the best types of cuisine for celiacs because they use simple recipes and don't have hidden glutens as a result. Most places will give you the pita filling without the pita. In our local greek restaurant I am known as the 'pita-less pita lady' I find it helps to stick to the same restaurants; they get to know you and your needs.
  6. I had psoriasis all my life until I went on a gluten-free diet. It took about a year to clear up. A friend of mine has really severe psoriasis but not celiac. When mine cleared up she went on a lguten-free diet too. It helped her a lot but it didn't go away compleltely the way mine did.
  7. If you test positive - on either test - then the final confirmation of celiac is that you respond to a gluten-free diet. So the response is the basis for the final diagnosis. Stick to your guns. Why should you make yourself sick just to please your doctor?
  8. I had a similar episode a while ago and couln't figure out what i had eaten to cause it. Then several people at work had the same thing, so i guess it was a stomach bug, not gluten. Gillian
  9. I have big problems with cellulose. Including microcristaline cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose. Almost every medication seems to have them. I tried getting info from one manufacturer, and was told that 'they're not made from anything, they're chemicals'!!! Unfortunately I do need a particular medication but after a few pills, get a gluten-like reaction...
  10. Hi Does any one else have problems with microcristaline cellulose? It is a filler that is found in most drugs. I can tolerate it for the occasional painkiller but taking it on a regular basis gives me a gluten type of reaction. I tried calling the manufacturer to find out what it was made of, and was told "It's not made from anything - its a chemical...
