My daughter was diagnosed in 2006 with Celiac disease. She's been doing well until just a few months ago. Part of the problem is her deodorant...she's getting swollen red, tremendously itchy rashes with solid white deodorants/antiperspirants but gels don't seem to bother her ... yet. What's the difference? What's a recommended gel/roll-on brand that doesn...

ARCHIVED General Mills , Trix , Mickey Mouse Club House Crunch

My understanding is that Rice Krispies have malt flavoring in them... -
We've discovered that we really enjoy getting a smoothie or juice "concoction" at Juice It Up. I thought it would be at least sort-of gluten-free from what I could see. When I e-mailed the company, their response to me was that their drinks were not gluten-free. When I asked them what ingredients they used that categorized them as non-gluten-free, they...

ARCHIVED Edy's Sherbert, Starbucks Beverages
mac3 replied to Kiki2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah! I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been wondering about Starbucks and have been too afraid to take my daughter there for a "treat" for fear that she would get sick or we'd have to walk out when a gluten-free request was frowned upon. We shall visit with vim and vigor again! -
ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch
mac3 replied to Joanne11's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think we've worked our way through every gluten-free bread made! My daughter grudgingly accepted some, turned her nose up at others, but so far, her "favoritest" is Kinnikinnick's bread mix. It's incredibly easy to make. My daughter is 10 and is making a loaf a week for herself...with a little supervision, of course! It seems to have a more "normal... -

My daughter's favorites are Koala Crisp and Arrowhead Mills Maple Buckwheat Flakes. I'm afraid to eat too much of her stuff because of the cost and difficulty in getting most of it, but he maple buckwheat flakes that I tasted, were actually quite good! -
ARCHIVED Kc Masterpiece Bbq Sauce?
mac3 replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We quit using most bbq sauces since most of the companies told us that even if the sauce's ingredients are gluten-free, they are still all prepared on the same line as their wheat products. We only buy bbq sauce that states "gluten free." -
ARCHIVED Breads?
mac3 replied to MGoers37's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We also buy Kinnikinnick breads. My daughter actually LIKES it! They also have a bread and bun mix (white) that is super easy to make...looks normal...and tastes good too! It doesn't seem to be as dry either. the mix is my daughter's favorite. I do everything on-line and have it shipped to me. The company has been GREAT to deal with and I get faster... -
It's good to know I'm not alone! I have been carrying snacks for her in my purse 'cause when we're out shopping or something, then mealtimes usually differ. Your symptoms sound a lot like my daughters...glad someone out there understands...even if I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the problem. And yes...ditto on the bread!

My daughter, 10, was diagnosed almost a year ago with celiac disease. She's been gluten-free ever since. However, if she doesn't eat at EXACTLY the right time, she doubles up with a stomach ache and it seems to take her 30 minutes to recover once she does slowly start to eat. Is this a celiac-related thing or just the way her body works? Last night she...

Every brand of spaghetti sauce states "tomato paste." Is there a specific brand of spaghetti sauce where the tomato paste doesn't include wheat flour? I have yet to see a brand of spaghetti sauce where it states what makes up their tomato paste so I just haven't bought any. I would love to have some on-hand in the pantry for one of those "quick fix" meals...

Time has gotten away from me and I failed to check the messages here 'til today! Whoops. Thanks for your input - my mind doesn't get as carried away when there's input coming from another source!! She's still getting headaches. I can't think of any perfumes, paints, in the house...her whiteboard markers might be bothering her but that wouldn't explain...

My daughter is 10. Before her diagnosis she would get pale and complain of a stomach ache pretty much every time we ate...then she'd spend 20 minutes in the bathroom and not eat anymore even though she wasn't full. She has only complained of a stomachache once...maybe twice...since we've gone gluten free. It's just been the past month that the headaches...

My daughter was diagnosed in April this year with celiac disease. The last month she's been complaining about fairly consistent headaches. Ibuprofen and tylenol seem to work but I would like to find out what the underlying cause is...if I can. Does anyone out there have any information as to whether her headaches are related to the celiac disease or not...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Restaurant In Calgary, Alberta, Canada
mac3 replied to mac3's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My understanding was that only after 4:00 they don't allow kiddos...but they do for breakfast and lunch. Does that sound right? I guess I'll just look 'em up and call them directly. My daughter is 9. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Restaurant In Calgary, Alberta, Canada
mac3 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm travelling to Canada for two weeks and I read somewhere on the message board...awhile back...about a gluten-free restaurant in Calgary, Alberta. However, I can't find that information. Can anyone out there give me the name and address of this restaurant? I would greatly appreciate your help! (so would my daughter who would benefit the most!) -
I remember reading (or at least I think I do!!!) about the gluten free Kraft-made powdered cheese sauce somewhere but I can't remember what it was called or where we could find it. Can anyone help me with this?!

ARCHIVED Easy Bake Ovens
mac3 replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't been on-line for awhile, but was thrilled to see this news! We bought my daughter an easy-bake oven for Christmas and then in March she was diagnosed with celiac disease. We've "stashed" her oven while I re-learn to bake so I can help her with it. I felt terrible! She'll be thrilled that she can cook again!!! -
ARCHIVED Cotton Candy?
mac3 replied to mac3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks! I ended up calling the company and they confirmed that their products are gluten-free. However, they could not guarantee that the final product, once made, would be gluten-free because of the variables involved. My daughter was VERY pleased!!!! -
Does anyone out there know if cotton candy is gluten free? I'm assuming there is artificial flavoring in it, but I'm not totally sure what "artificial flavoring" means...with some products it's okay and with others it's not.

Wow! Sounds like I'll need to spend a couple of days in the kitchen to try everything out. One recipe that I made called for olive oil as the fat...truly terrible! The coconut ones sound good...I don't think I've seen coconut flour though in the store...but I've ordered quite a bit on-line. Another question...what's the difference between regular salt...

Before my daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease, one of my favorite things to make was assorted biscuits. In all my cooking adventures, research, and cookbook buying-frenzies, I have yet to find a GOOD gluten-free biscuit recipe. Everything - in comparison to my old recipes - tastes terrible. Does anyone out there have a really good, tried-and-true...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Flour Substitutions
mac3 replied to mac3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've had more luck ordering flour on-line from Bob's Red Mill, Arrowhead, etc. With the cost of gas these days, it's easier for me to order everything on-line and have it delivered to my door rather than stopping at 4 different health food stores to pick-up everything. Clark's Nutritional Center has also been a good place to pick-up flour for me...if you... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Recommend Some Cookbooks?
mac3 replied to Mia H's topic in Publications & Publicity
My all-time favorite cookbook (and I've bought SEVERAL in the past 3 months) is "The Best Gluten-Free Family Cookbook" by Donna Washburn and Heather Butt. It seems that most gluten-free cookbooks have their own flour mixes and I've discovered that I end up storing 12 different flour mixtures and have to use them according to whichever cookbook I'm using... -
ARCHIVED Pledge Furniture Polish
mac3 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if Pledge furniture polish is gluten-free? My daughter complains every time about her hands itching and headaches. I just want to make sure that it's a legitimate complaint and that she's not just trying to get out of doing chores!!!
