ARCHIVED Celiacs With Gall Bladder Disease
wildones replied to mjtropical's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To those of you having biliary (liver, pancreatic and/or bile duct problems)- please ask your doctor to order an MRCP. It is an MRI of the biliary tract that will give much more information than an ultrasound. Especially if you have very pale colored stools. My son has short gut (75% of his small intestines, his ileocecal valve and part of his colon have... -
Thanks for posting this My husband and I and our 3 kids are all gluten free. We tried noodles & co twice now, it was really good and none of us had any problems I was insistant that we talk to the managers both times (2 different restaurants) and that they personally prepared our meals in a fresh pot with fresh water. We had them put plain grilled...

ARCHIVED Baby/ Child Diagnosed?
wildones replied to azedazobollis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had many biopsies/endoscopies (for other reasons- he has short gut-over 75% of his small intestines were removed as an infant) well before he was 6 yrs old. He did not have the classic flattened villi, but lymphocytes found during his biopsy that dx'd celiac disease. He has previously had false negative blood test results before the newer blood... -
ARCHIVED Rx Ingredients
wildones posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My son is taking an rx- Urso for his liver/biliary tract disorder. I think the ingredients are all gluten free, the pharmacist didn't know. The manufacturer didn't seem to want to say one way or another (didn't want to be liable I guess) He hasn't been feeling great lately, but it could be from so many reasons. He has celiac disease, short bowel syndrome... -
Hi Lisa Thanks for the number Hi Joanna My son's Gi drs have their own nutritionist and we have also seen several nutritionists at our local children's hospital, but it has been a while since we have been there. My son has also seen a peds GI dr who specializes in nutrition, but I haven't been real thrilled with any of them. He has a very unique...

I am not your 'classic' looking celiac either. My kids all have celiac disease or gluten intolerance as does my husband. My kids are all have very different looking body types/weights/height and symptoms. They are triplets so I have a godd comparison group. One of my boys had his galbladder out at almost 5 yrs old. He had huge stones stuck in his common...

ARCHIVED My Child Is Driving Me Crazy!
wildones replied to kathyhay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Did you know that your diet has to TOTALLY gluten free for 3 months, for you not to be passing on gluten to your baby ? I think it is likely that he may be having problems tolerating milk proteins too (the proteins are very similar and often babies/toddlers/adults can't tolerate either protein) So you would also need to be casein free, for 3 months, also... -
thank you !!!

I saw this in another post you wrote and am wondering if you could give me some more info please "When I talked to a nutritionist, Anne Lee (who works with famous celiac Dr. Green), she said that one of the key things is not to worry -- stress is not good for dealing with and recovering from celiac disease...

ARCHIVED Reaction After Touching Foods ?
wildones replied to wildones's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for your replies. My son who has had diarrhea does not have DH. I will next time make it known to the teachers that they can't even touch things with gluten in then, if I had known they were doing this, I would have had them use the gloves like suggested. I suppose it is possible that he didn't get his hands clean enough to get rid of all of the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Reaction After Touching Foods ?
wildones posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids (I have 8 yr old triplets all 3 have celiac disease or gluten intolerance) made a project at school that had pretzels, oreo cookies, saltines and licorice of all things used as building materials. My kids know better than to eat any of those things and they said they washed their hands several times afterwards. One of my boys, the one with the... -

No I am not familiar with that, but will look into it, thanks . My son does love all the foods you mentioned, so that is good news for us. Lorraine -
ARCHIVED Additional Nutrition Challenges ?
wildones posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does anyone else have a child with major nutritional challenges besides celiac disease ? One of my boys has short gut-he had 75% of his small intestines, his ileocecal valve(very important) and part of his colon removed as a newborn. he also has a biliary tract disorder and possibly a progressive liver disorder too. He has a stent in his common bile duct... -
Dr Hoffenberg is good, we have seen quite a few peds GI drs in the metro Denver area including him (we saw him for familial polyposis). My only hesitation about the GI clinic at the Children's Hospital, is another dr at the clinic, who you may encounter (on call sometime or for another reason) is AWFUL ! I won't say who it is, but I will send you a private...

ARCHIVED Undiagnosed W A Difficult Dr- Help!
wildones replied to beccathorn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Find another doctor. There is no point wasting time with a doctor who will give you a hard time, especially if you are pregnant. You can still get more than adequate nutrition. You could potentially have a much bigger problem if you are consuming gluten when you shouldn't be. If you are malnourished you can not provide adequate nutrition to your baby. I really... -

ARCHIVED A Little Inspirational Message For A Parent With A
wildones replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have seen the poem in a lot of places, when doing research for my son's medical problems and from friends. I like the poem, but agree on it not really 'fitting' for kids 'just with celiac'. My son has some major medical problems and so celiac disease doesn't seem like a big deal at all to me compared to his other issues. Just my perspective, it is helpful... -
ARCHIVED Bile Acid Problems And Jaundice
wildones posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My son has short gut (he had over 70% of his small intestines removed, his ileocecal valve removed and part of his colon removed) and he also has celiac disease. he had his galbladder out when he was almost 5 yrs old after he had a huge gallstone stuck in his common bile duct. He just had another ERCP to remove sludge from his common bile duct and has... -
ARCHIVED Vce - Video Capsule Endoscopy
wildones replied to lisabarella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My husband's GI dr does them and so does our peds GI dr, but only for basic screening type colonoscopies though. They do them as initial type screening to see if any further investigating needs to be done. I don't see how they could really be of much use in an endocopy proceedure, because you can't really tell anything by just looking without actually taking... -
I have found a very strong connection in my own research between preemies, who were given milk based formulas or who were given breastmilk and mom was not CF/gluten-free, and the baby developing NEC, and later being diagnosed w/ celiac. One of my triplets was given a milk based formula against my adament requests. He developed NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis...

I am looking for a really good nutritionist who specializes in celiac, but also has experience with kids with other major nutrition challenges. One of my boys w/ celiac disease also has had 70%+ of his small intestines removed. The nutritionist we have seen most recently just gives us info on what not to eat, and hasn't been much help. thanks Lorraine

ARCHIVED Goat Milke
wildones replied to AntiGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you tried rice or soy milk ? All three of my kids were dx w/ milk protein allergies long before they were dx w/celiac disease and did well with 1st rice, now soy milk. Silk brand soy milk is much better tasting than cow's milk in my opinion. We did not consider goat's milk because I had heard that the proteins were similar to cow's milk proteins. Lorraine -
ARCHIVED New Gf Store Opens In Castle Pines Co!
wildones replied to Mghunter's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wish I had seen this earlier today ! My parents live in Castle Pines and we were there today ! and looking for some food too . Thanks for the tip ! I will tell my kids' GI doctor's office about it, they are near Park Meadows and see tons of celiac kids. If you need to see a peds GI doctor for your baby (hopefully not) I can highly recommend Dr Ted Stathos... -
ARCHIVED Important For All Kids
wildones posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This affects all kids in a lot of ways, but particularly impacts those with learning and other disabilities. Celiac disease is technically a disability under the ADA by the way. ARCHIVED Hashbrown Pizza Crust
wildones replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I posted about hash brown crust like you described for quiche, but have not tried it for pizza- it sounds yummy ! I will have to try it soon. My kids are probably more upset about not having pizza than any other food. We have tried gluten free pizza crusts (from the mixes) and have not liked them. Lorraine
