  1. My son is our resident celiac, and he is fairly sensitive. He has reacted to Midel animal crackers & chocolate chip cookies and to Van's waffles. He eats Lay's chips regularly without any issues. His gastro does follow-up blood work every 6 mos., and he has tested negative (i.e., no indications of gluten ingestion) for the last 2 1/2 years.
  2. Thanks! We have a bumper crop of zucchini, so I will try making brownies this week! Jean
  3. These sound great. Did your gluten-free flour mix contain xanthan gum? Mine does, so I think I probably don't need the extra 1/2 tsp. Thanks for posting!
  4. My son's name is Brendan, so we thought we would get his godparents some St. Brendan's Irish Cream (like Bailey's) for Christmas. I went to their website to see where I could find it locally, and their FAQ section only has about 3 questions...including "Is St. Brendan's gluten free?" As it turns out, it is gluten-free, so you can add it to your list.
  5. This article about quinoa was on msn.com. It has some tasty-sounding recipes. I think they are mostly gluten-free already; although, it's possible some minor mods might be needed. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Thanks for the suggestions! I had a feeling we would need feather boas! Jean
  7. My daughter is turning 5 next month and has chosen a "purple and red rockstar" theme for her party. We have no idea what constitutes a rockstar party and neither does she. She loves purple and red, especially together, and likes to sing. She is not at all into Disney, Hannah Montana, Bratz, Barbie, etc. We were thinking of a lot of star-shaped stuff ...
  8. I thought the same about you before I even read your post! Glad to meet you!
  9. The absolutely best book for kids is "The G.F. Kid: A Celiac Disease Survival Guide" by Melissa London. (Open Original Shared Link .com/gluten-free-Kid-Celiac-Disease-Survival/dp/1890627690/ref=sr_1_1/104-2007085-7137553?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189651191&sr=1-1) I first found it in our public library and have since ordered two copies. Each year...
  10. I'm sitting here eating Yoplait Thick & Creamy Strawberry Banana yogurt, and I notice it says "gluten free" right on the label below the ingredients. There's a 2007 copyright on the front. Anyone know when they started labeling with the words gluten-free? My son is our resident celiac, and we've only given him Yoplait since going gluten free.
  11. Thank you!!!!! The snack list is just what I was looking for and the letter is too! I will save them in a regular file. Have a great day!
  12. I have bookmarked the link for the gluten-free Snack and Candy List and the Teacher Letter from the Dallas R.O.C.K. website; however, the website doesn't seem to be working. I need to print them out for this year's teacher. Does anybody have these documents saved in a different format that can be emailed? Thanks for your help! Jean

    ARCHIVED University Celiac Clinics

My son sees Dr. Guandalini at the University of Chicago. We have nothing but great things to say about him and his staff. Every visit (including his endoscopy) have been positive experiences.
  14. Here are a couple of thoughts based on my 6-year-old son's experience: 1. Ian was originally on the height curves between 50 and 75%, then he dropped below the 25% around age 4. Is your son still following the same curve, or has it changed? 2. Ian was also tested (via an x-ray of his hand) for constitutional growth delay. At the time of the test...
  15. Hi Karol, Let us know how it goes! We live in Wheaton (ahh...the irony of being gluten-free in a town called Wheaton). Our 6 year old sees Dr. Guandalini at the Univ. of Chicago, but we've heard good things about Dr. Holland. Be sure to check out Natural Health Foods in Naperville on Ogden just east of Washington for a huge selection of gluten free...
