ARCHIVED Teeth Grinding
maggee replied to momothree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had awful night time teeth grinding as well. I noticed almost right away (within a few weeks) of his gluten free diet that it stopped. He has been gluten-free for about 1 1/2 yrs and still no problems with teeth grinding. I hope the same for your son. Regards -
ARCHIVED Spouse Of Celiac
maggee replied to swittenauer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband and son have been diagnosed but I keep my daughter and myself gluten free as well. She did have colic and other symptoms as a baby. I plan on getting enterolab test for her soon. I don't have problem living gluten-free at all. As a matter of fact I am eating healthier than I ever had. My issue is with the outtings (birthday parties, family... -
This forum is great for information. I am new here as well and I have learned more here than all the doctors and books combined. My family found the gluten-free diet hard at first but now (after a year) we are so much healthier (and happier). I have a suggestion (once you are on track)... with your background you should start a gluten free bakery. I can...

Welcome, I'm new here as well and have gotten more info here about celiac / gluten free foods than anywhere else. For breakfast we like to focus on fresh fruit (you may have to be careful about amt with blood sugar issues). If you are ok with nuts spread some nut butter on a piece of fruit or rice cakes / gluten-free crakers. In the colder months we...

ARCHIVED Attn: Non-celiacs....i Need Your Help
maggee replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am still struggling with family a year later! They think my son and husband will someday "grow out of it". A few think it is a 'made-up' disease. Even my husband's relatives who may benefit from this knowledge (& testing!) are in denial. It is frustrating that they don't get it but I found I made the most "progress" and protected my son by composing... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed After Dr Visit Today
maggee replied to Luvs to Scrap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
there are some good non-dairy milks available. It may take some getting used to but soy, almond, etc. in flavors (to help getting used to new tastes). I hope you get some answers soon. -
Be sure your dietician / nutritionist has experience with celiac. When my son was diagnosed we were referred to a nutritionist. When we met with her she had to go "dig-up" a list of allowable foods on a gluten free diet. Top of the list was a burger king burger - "just remove the bun" By the end of our visit she admitted I already knew more than...

ARCHIVED Why Don't People 'get It'?
maggee replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is one topic I struggle with each day. Our family (myself, husband and 2 young children) are gluten free for 1yr (my son dx'd) and then completely for 8 months (my dh dx'd). I am STILL telling the same family members over and over that no we will NEVER be able to have gluten again. "So when will you guys get to eat regular again?" "Never" "Really... -
ARCHIVED My Little One Has Been So Sick!
maggee replied to imsohungry's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Julie, I totally agree with Ursula and Robbin - please investigate vaccine reactions asap. Some kids cannot keep up with the "schedule" and some cannot tolerate them at all. I found info at www.mothering.com. Good Luck and I hope your son feels better soon. Maggee -
Jodele, My son had a gene test at 5yo that came back negative. Unfortunately, it took another year of illness - he does have celiac. I feel that absolute proof positive is the results of a gluten-free diet. Yes you can live without gluten. Since it sounds like your whole family would benefit, right after your tests - try the gluten free diet. I would...

Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I think you have received some good advice here. My son struggled with constant pain and illness (until he was finally diagnosed at 6yo) so he was usually understanding about avoiding foods (we thought it was just allergies at the time). By the time my dd was 2yo she had been exposed to us always asking questions...

ARCHIVED Tax Deductions And Gluten-free Foods
maggee replied to maggee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all - sounds like more trouble than it is worth by my quick calculations I might only just make it over the 7.5%. That just is worth the red audit flag. Maggee -
I just went shopping and since my whole family (4) are eating gluten-free the bills are stacking up. Has anyone deducted the costs of their treatment (gluten-free foods) as a medical expense from their taxes? Just wondering... Maggee

ARCHIVED Birthday Parties And Family Get Togethers.
maggee replied to shai76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I might be chiming in late here but I have had a similar problem - (my 7 yo recently diagnosed celiac but has had multiple food allergies since he was a yr old) I endured the same issues and tried to solve them without 'losing' family or hurting feelings - but here is what is really boiled down to.. however I handle these situations is exactly how my son... -
I have read the replies to my original post to my husband (he cannot look at computer screen too long as he is just recovering from a migraine) and he wants to return the good wishes and thanks for the info. I have read enough to him from these and other posts to keep his spirits up. We will continue to see the MD and are going to visit a naturopathic ...

maggee replied to zebrabelly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry to hear about your struggles. My now 7yo went thru something similar. He had multple (changing!) food allergies and eventually got very ill (no food or water would stay for 3 weeks). That is when we finally got diagnosis. I have some suggestions for introducing food but you should get your Ped / Allergist to help with some testing (although Celiac... -
No my husband is not on any medications. Oh and "BTDT" is "Been There Done That". Thanks for the replies.

Hi - I am new to this site. I am grateful for all the info I have read so far - thanks! My son and then my husband were recently diagnosed celiac. My husband suffers from migraines (1 to 2 per week, 24 hrs in bed, vomiting, weight loss, etc.). He has been gluten-free for only a few months but has not experienced any relief. My question to those of...
