  1. Thanks so much for all the ideas. They helped. Kristen
  2. I am looking for a recipe for a rhubarb crisp or crumble. I have a ton of rhubarb and need to use it. I'd like a crust on the bottom and ??? for the top. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. I have a 3.5 month little boy who was born almost 2 months early. He has severe reflux and is on multiple meds, sleeps in a wedge, and coughs and chokes often. I was wondering if this is common in babies who may have celiac? His sister (7) has celiac and his paternal Grandmother. I do not have celiac and do not eat gluten free and do exclusively nurse...
  4. Thank you everyone for your input and advise. I really appreciate it. Kristen
  5. Thanks for the response Fiddle-Faddle. I should have put that I am pumping every 3 hours and it is actually going quite well. They are adding the fortifier to my brestmilk at every feeding. He is taking both mixed together through his feeding tube. I feel like pumping is about all i can do for my little guy right now. Kristen
  6. My DD has celiac. Neither my husband nor I have celiac but obviously one of us is a carrier. I just had a baby 7 weeks early and I was eating gluten free for the baby and I told the NICU NOT to give him anything with gluten. Well...I went in to visit him today and they have put him on a calorie fortifier to help him grow faster and IT HAS GLUTEN. I am...
  7. Juliet - You mention having your son's TTC levels checked? Is this through a blood test and could it be done by the pediatrician? We have had zero follow up and I'd really like to be able to check and see if she is still getting gluten. Is that what it shows? Kasie
  8. My daughter, age 5, was diagnosed 8 months ago with celiac and casein intolerance. Since going on a Gluten-free Casein-free diet she is off almost all of her meds and her behavior is much better. However, she still has a distended belly. SHe is quite thin except for her tummy. Sometimes she can look pregnant. I thought this was a symptom of the celiac...
  9. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed by Enderol as being celiac and casein intolerant in Sept. of 06. This was AFTER the pediatric GI specialist dismissed the diagnosis after positive blood tests and an inconclusive biopsy. We are now 8 months later and I'm wondering what medical follow up she should be having in relation to having celiac. We can't go...
  10. Thanks so much. That makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the advice.
  11. My four year old daughter was diagnosed with celiac and casein intolerant 6 months ago and has been doing well on a gluten free/ casein free diet. Our 2 year old son has not been tested yet but shows no signs what-so-ever. I had the bood test done and it was negative. My husband and I are now considering a third child and didn't know if it would be in...
  12. I too would love any suggestions to spice up our meals a little. My four year old has celiac and casein intolerance and our whole family is eating gluten free/ CF due to her but our meals are getting very BORING. I think she is starting to get a little depressed over it. She was just diagnosed in Sept. of 06 so it hasn't been that long but the same old...
  13. Most marshmellows that I've checked are fine, but I want to know about the turkey too, anyone????
  14. This is our first gluten/casein free thanksgiving and my parents, in attempt to help, have decided to take everyone out for thanksgiving!!!! Needless to say this doesn't help at all. Now I am trying to cook my 4 year old a gluten free dinner AND transport it to the resturant without her knowing. She has only been gluten free/casein free for three months...
  15. Is Children's Benadryl gluten-free and casein-free? I see on their website that they cannot guarantee it is gluten-free due to possible cross-contamination, but have others used this successfully?
  16. It looks like she may have been getting some gluten in her. We were using a Mrs. Butterworth's syrup that we thought was gluten-free but we have been told now that it isn't Apparently they use it as some sort of thickener but you would not be able to tell by any ingredients on the label. We caught that just this week, so we feel like we have gone back...
  17. Thank you all for your help in going through this maze of labels. I can't thank you enough, you've been so helpful!!!!
  18. I would love a copy of it please kcandkelly@comcast.net Thank you so much!
  19. Stupidly I looked at the labels in the store (with my four and two year old in tow) and they looked ok to me and I bought them but i'm not trusting myself to catch everything yet and still call on everything. I'm only one month into this and it's my daughter that is diagnosed so it is almost impossible to tell if she's been glutened since she's only four...
  20. Michelle, that is interesting you had problems the first 6 months as well. Our daughter was colic the first 6 months, but more like crying 5-8 hours a day and was on meds for stomach issues with gas. Now I wonder if it wasn't colic but celiac!?! She too, has not presented with "classic celiac" so we have yet to have a peds GI take her seriously. She is...
  21. Michi8, your situation sounds so familar. My daughter has been on Miralax, an adult dose and a half, since shortly after stoping breastfeading at 14 months. She was tested for celiac at age 2.5 with a positive blood test and inconclusive biopsy. The Dr. at Children's Hospital told me it was not celiac at that time but simply childhool constipation and...
  22. My daughter, 4 1/2, was diagnosed with Celiac and casein intolerance at the beginning of Sept. She has since been gluten free and casein light (to the best of my growing knowledge). Her presenting symptoms were a distended belly, severe constipation, and irritability, and being over-emotional (even for a four year old girl How soon should we expect to...
  23. Thanks for all the good advice and tips. I would be totally in the dark without this message board. I wish others we'ren't going through the same thing but it is nice to know I'm not alone. Any advice on the casein issue? SHould we cut out gluten and casein together or do one first? ALso, where do I start with the casein? I've heard I shouldn't substitute...
