ARCHIVED Could My Son Have Celiac?
Izak's Mom replied to selketine's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Out of curiousity, I checked PubMed (an online database of medical articles/clinical trials/other publications) and found Open Original Shared Link. According to this study, there is a link between type 1 diabetes and and increased risk for celiac. -E -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Codes - Insurance Stuff
Izak's Mom replied to Izak's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
*sigh* so, here's the latest: seems my son's ped. decided to consult with the hospital ped. GI person, who basically told her that there was no such thing as a reliable stool test ("if there were, i'd be prescribing them") and that we should have had the blood work done before doing the elimination diet. so much for having the enterolab tests covered by... -
ARCHIVED So Ticked Off!
Izak's Mom replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
OMG, I'd be so pi$$ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel for you... I hope they find it!!!!!!! What is it with the docs? Check this out - so I tell my son's (Izak too!) ped. who is really very cool, all about Enterolab and about how I really want to use them, because Ike's been gluten-free for about 4 months and his dietary response has been undeniable... -
ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question.
Izak's Mom replied to mom2fiveblueyebabes's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know how difficult it is to start & stick to the diet, especially when you have family and friends giving you the wiggly eyebrow about it. But the thing is, if you try it and see a positive response, no test in the world can change that fact. And if you try it and it doesn't help, then no harm done either - it's not like it's such a strict regimen... -
ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question.
Izak's Mom replied to mom2fiveblueyebabes's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi - Check out my thread about Enterolab Open Original Shared Link - you might also want to browse around in that section. Here's the recap of what's in there: Dr. Fine (the Enterolab guy) has a patent on his methods of testing, so your hospital/doctor can't perform the same tests (that was one of my first questions, too). I have BC/BS and called... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Codes - Insurance Stuff
Izak's Mom replied to Izak's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sally's Mommy - that's the same that mine will do, but what I'd wind up paying after the deductible, etc. is pretty close to just paying the $369, which is out of my budget range at the moment. Update - I spoke with my son's ped. and she didn't even hesitate for a second when I asked her to order the tests through Enterolab - she's all for it. (Yay!)... -
ARCHIVED How Long Once You've Been Glutened?
Izak's Mom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just wanted to take a quickie poll - when you've been glutened, how long before your symptoms go away? My brother accidently gave my son a bite of blackberry pie (big crusty bite) on Tuesday two weeks ago - I yelped a second too late. Anyway, his poop is FINALLY back to "normal" after a full two weeks of grossness. Are any of you this sensitive? -
ARCHIVED Beverages
Izak's Mom replied to warrenfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The organic pear juice is by a company called Open Original Shared Link. The cran-raz is Apple & Eve. Like I mentioned, I really have to watch it with Izak juice-wise...if he has more than a cup a day (even watered down) it just goes right through him. Took me awhile to figure out what was going on, but once I made juice an occasional thing... -
ARCHIVED Beverages
Izak's Mom replied to warrenfamily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is 13 months and I've found I have to be careful with the juice or he gets D that looks like he's been glutened, but it's really just the juice causing it. He drinks water and Vanilla-flavor Silk (soy milk) - seems to really like that. I also will occasionally give him watered down organic pear juice or watered down cran-raspberry, which he also... -
ARCHIVED New Here...5 Y/o May Have Celiac?
Izak's Mom replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is about 13 months and for months 7-8 it seemed we were at the doc's office at least once a week. Diarrhea was his big deal too, although he doesn't have any growth issues. But when I say diarrhea, I don't just mean run-of-the-mill loose poop - I mean explosive, all-over-EVERYTHING, absolutely not diaper-containable nastiness that he'd be covered... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Codes - Insurance Stuff
Izak's Mom replied to Izak's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's the boat I'm in. I emailed Enterolab about it - here's what I asked & what they said: My Question: I can't afford the full panel for my suspected-Celiac son Izak and since you are not a BC/BS PPO provider, my insurance won't cover it (they would 100% if you were in the network) - I know this may not be an appropriate question, but please, do... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Codes - Insurance Stuff
Izak's Mom replied to Izak's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmm...so I called my insurance and it seems since Enterolab isn't a BC/BS PPO provider, the tests aren't fully covered (although they would be if Enterolab were in their network). Sooo...anyone know an alternative to Enterolab that IS in the BS/BC network? Help! -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Codes - Insurance Stuff
Izak's Mom posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thought I'd share some info I got from Enterolab over the phone the other day when I called to find out what the deal was with insurance: Below are the codes for the Gluten Sensitivity Stool and Gene Panel Complete. Once you have the test, Enterolab provides you with a coded invoice to submit to your insurance company. To find out if these tests are... -

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, what would I do without this board????!?!??! !!!! TOOTHPASTE!! Man, I learn something new every day here! I had no idea...and here for the past couple days I've been trying to be good about his new teeth & brushing them - hmmm, but I just got the tube and looking at it, I don't seen anything immediately offensive? It's the Doctor Burt's Children's Toothpaste. The ingredients are: Purified water... -
Apologies in advance - this is a total poop post: so after my son had a day of D I figured out that the only possible culprit was cross contamination from the pasta he ate that I made the night before - I made some artichoke fettucine for myself (which I'm pretty sure was wheat-based - and I was even thinking that I should have been eating the rice spaghetti...

ARCHIVED Is There Such A Thing?
Izak's Mom replied to mrsnj91's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
KayJay - Yowsers! Hmm...you could still do the meatballs, just omit the egg. Tomato sauce should be OK too - I use the little cans of Hunt's with the Basil & Oregano in there (easier & faster than making my own, but my Italian grandma would probably kill me) I just checked the label on the bread I use - Food for Life brand WF/gluten-free Brown... -
ARCHIVED Is There Such A Thing?
Izak's Mom replied to mrsnj91's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you're not a vegetarian (which I suspect you're not, if you're buying chicken!) you should try making meatballs - Izak loves 'em. Instead of breadcrumbs, I mix in some cornmeal and the usual spices (a little oregano, basil, salt, pepper - plus an egg for consistency) and cook them in tomato sauce. They're mushy enough for him to eat himself and are a... -
ARCHIVED Is There Such A Thing?
Izak's Mom replied to mrsnj91's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son is just past 1 now and we've been wf/gluten-free for almost 5 months now... I think the truth is that with food intolerance, what you gain in health from changing diet you give up in convenience. The good thing is, the things you can prepare at home with relatively little fuss are way healthier than any pre-packaged meal anyway! Not that that... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Discomfort
Izak's Mom replied to nursingmommie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think 3 days is long enough to see any improvement - you really need to give it a minimum of 2-3 weeks for your system to totally clear out. I know the waiting stinks...Hang in there! Also - what brand rice bread are you using? I was doing the Ener-G White Rice Wheat Free stuff for awhile, but as you noted, it's not exactly appetizing, even when... -

I buy Ener-G bread - you should check out their website: Open Original Shared Link We use the White Rice Wheat Free Yeast Free bread - truth be told, it's icky right out of the bag but makes fine french toast (can your daughter have eggs?). My son also loves cereal - we eat an organic brand of rice crispies and I just got him some Rice Chex which he... -
ARCHIVED Getting Run Around With Gastro
Izak's Mom replied to averyannsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know how you feel too - my little Izak is going to be ONE tomorrow (eek!) and we've been gluten-free since he was about 8 mos. for exactly the same reason: chronic D. Like gross, explosive, mucous/watery nasty poop. We went to the doc probably 4 times in as many weeks and they did a stool sample for parasites and all that - everything came back fine....
