  1. I'm lucky enough to have a grocery store (Omni Foods Market) about 5 minutes from me which carries the Kinnick brand... and, regarding the muffins -- YUM, delish. Put one in the microwave for 30 seconds & ate warm... mmm, now I'm hungry. I'm thinking about ordering the Kinnick Bagels (and probably the donuts - they sound great!) online - and just...
  2. Hi celiackids -- I did a quick search for you and all I could find was: Green Apple Foods in Elizabthtown, KY: Open Original Shared Link Hopefully there will be a Whole Foods or Wild Oats Market or something like that -- otherwise, just stick to potatoes & rice!! Have a good trip!
  3. My only main symptom was also anemia -- iron pills did nothing for me though -- and after my biopsy I felt fine.. Although, I had a very sore throat for a week! I've been off the gluten completely for a week now, but have not had any abdominal pain. I agree with the previous poster - he should call the DR. It could also be an adjustment to a differerent...
  4. I've found that a lot of japanese food is gluten-free -- mainly because their main staple is rice. Especially the noodles - love them.. the soy sauce might be an issue for sure. Hopefully you'll be able to make a lot of your own food while there -- but I must say since I find most of the food I end up buying is japanese, it might work out OK. You'll probably...
  5. Hey -- I LOVE OMNI FOODS! I live in Boston & go to one that is right near me on Rte. 9 in Chestnut Hill! It's wonderful, a little pricey, but it all is -- and they've got a huge selection... They even have gluten-free beer, haven't tried it yet though...
  6. oohh -- saw that there & went for the bagels to start.. Will have to get those next time. I also got the chocolate chips muffins (frozen), and looking forward to eating one after work!
  7. Hello all -- I'm on Day 3 of a gluten free life!! So far, so good. Spent some $$ at the store the other day for a whole new pantry of food --- and thanks to suggestions here & from my sister (celiac for 2+ years) I had an excellent dinner & breakfast! Had Tinkyada pasta - delish! - mixed it with tomato sauce & sauteed onions, squash &...
  8. Hi hannah - i just recently went through blood test & endoscopy to diagnose Celiac, and my biggest symptom was anemia, have had low iron for YEARS, with no other issues, no stomach problems or anything - Until recently, which was why I got tested... Also, my sister was diagnosed two years ago (so I sortof knew I might have it) -- anway, she has Never...
  9. Hey -- I just had mine on Friday.. It took me hours to get over the drugs - I was so loopy! It wasn't bad at all though -- I totally agree with the previous poster regarding having the nurse or doc tell your escort what they inevitably tell you numerous times! I remember asking questions repeatedly, but cannot remember the answers! The throat spray tastes...
  10. Hey -- Good to hear it went OK -- I have mine on Friday and it sounds like it's pretty easy. Gluten-Free WW? Sounds tough -- i'd be living on 94% fat free Pop secret pop corn at 1 point per bag!! Thats gluten-free right???
  11. Megzmc -- Thanks! I had no idea that was there.. now I'm pissed that I went through all of this with MGH! I wonder if I can meet with that nutrionist you mentioned? Does your insurance pay for that?? Do you just give her a call for an appointment? I really wish I did a little more research, unfortunately my primary care doc is affiliated with MGH - which...
  12. Mayflowers -- yes, a celiac specialist would be great, but there seems to be about 3 of them in the US -- my sister looked for a while & couldn't even get an appt. with one in NY, and I checked out the entire GI unit at MGH, and there are no specialists... Nutrition specialists we have found, but not DRs... I'm thinking now I may cancel the endo.......
  13. I understand what you're saying, and I'm questioning my biopsy at this point due to what you are saying -- but 4 different doctors have recommended the biopsy to be ABSOLUTELY sure, and to make sure it's not something else.... It's hard to ignore 4 doctors (and trust people I don't know online) & as much as I research online, there isn't much conclusive...
  14. Thanks Wolfie & Nini for your responses... Wolfie -- I know! I was so surprised he said to wait, from everything I've read online & in this forum, it seems the earlier detected & treated, the better off I am. Nini -- I WAS going to "put a lot of stock in the biopsy", so thanks for pointing that out. I didn't ever think it might come back...
  15. Hello --- I finally met with my Gastro Doc (took over a month to get an appt) yesterday. I had blood tests a month & a half ago or longer for celiac & they came back 'positive' as well as iron levels Very low (as they have been for years). Quick History -- my sister was diagnosed two years ago (after a long time not being able to figure out...
  16. I would NOT recommend douching -- this will make the yeast infection worse!! It throws off the PH levels in your body & is not natural... Unless you do it with water alone. But I thought the Kefir was a great suggestion, Whole Foods carries it. I am heading towards a Celiac diagnosis (positive blood work, sister has it, endoscopy scheduled for Aug...
  17. Hey Supergirl -- I'm in the same boat as you pretty much -- confirmed blood tests, but appointment with Gastro Doc is not for another month & they want to do an Endoscopy.. it's frustrating because i'm 99.99 % sure i have this (my sister was diagnosed a year ago), and I have to keep eating gluten until after the Endo. I've been anemic for about 5...
  18. No Regular Rice Krispies are NOT OK -- same with Corn Pops -- I just finished a box of the Natures Path Organic Krispy Rice and it was really good! Almost better than the original. The Nature's Path Corn Flakes (gluten-free of course) are also pretty good!
  19. Hi -- I'm in the same boat as you basically, just got back positive blood results and am waiting to meet with my Gastro DR & get an endoscopy. Of course the wait is painful because I want to STOP eating gluten, but my DR told me to keep eating it as normal until AFTER the endoscoopy... Wish I didn't have to - but I've been cutting down a little on...
  20. Funny you mention that MollyP --- My sister is Celiac + Vegetarian, and it's a little tricky for her, and we were just talking about Taco Bell. At Taco Bell specifically, you can pretty much only get Pintos & Cheese. I think you can get the sauces too -- but not any of their corn tacos, they're made with gluten (that info was in a book I bought...
  21. SEVERE bloating, cramping in lower abdomen, gurgling noises & feelings -- fluttering feeling almost in what must be my lower intestines, gas (blah), bathroom visits either 3 times a day or not for days.... FUN STUFF!
  22. Thank you all for your responses! I've pretty much already accepted the fact that the endoscopy will come back as positive for celiac.. now I just have to wait & continue eating normal (with stomach pain, etc) until that point. My sister has begun "showing me the celiac ropes" and letting me know which products are good, & which to avoid...
  23. Hello all -- I tested positive for celiac through blood testing last week (going for Endoscopy next week) .. I figured it would be positive. My sister was diagnosed 2 years ago, and I was supposed to get tested then, but never did. I have had unexplained anemia for about 6 years, no amount of iron, steak, leafy greens, etc would get my iron levels...
