  1. Thanks for the quick response! Cornstarch huh? maybe it was something else... i don't think its a virus at this point... I just have that bloated stomach with the gurgling and what seems like food slowly moving through...the standard thing I had before i went gluten fre... The only thing out of the ordinary was the chinese.. I also ate some unusual goat cheese...
  2. I think I got glutened yesterday... I wanted some chinese food, and this was my first time ordering since the diagnosis... Well, I told the guy i was "allergic to soy sauce" -- and wanted chicken & broccoli without any soy - so he said, he would do a white sauce... Stupidly I agreed and didn't mention anything about flour/food starch, etc... Anyway, ate...
  3. Mayflowers -- No meat must make getting protein tough! But I wasn't really saying to add more meat - but protein to her diet -- I recommended the LaraBars & the Odwalla Super Protein shakes (no meat in either) as examples... I personally find it hard to get enough meat into my diet being that i never know what to cook for dinner until the last minute...
  4. Congrats on the 1.6!! My savior was the 1 point popable popcorn - I think the 94 or 98% fat free regular size bags - and it's good! That used to really fill me up between lunch & dinner and it was only a point! I actually found that if I worked out too, I would be less hungry, so that was a good thing after work. I also really enjoyed the Kashi...
  5. No problem GFP-- I figured I'd get a post from you with my info quoted, but I wanted to put in my "information" for others who were curious. The funny (if you want to call it that) thing about my doctor is that he talked more to me post-diagnosis about my Irish heritage than about the kinds of foods I should stay away from, the fact that I should be taking...
  6. Hi -- Welcome! By the way, the "sprouted grain bread" you ate probably had wheat or gluten in it unless you checked... But if you think it might be celiac - maybe just ask your DR for the blood test, it was easy for me, I made a phone call, went in, and got results 5 days later (positive). I would also advise reading a lot of the posts on this forum...
  7. Hey -- If you're anywhere near Northampton/Hadley -- there is an AWESOME Whole Foods there - very close to UMASS Amherst. I was just there this weekend and have been raving about it. Great selection. Good luck!
  8. Hey I thought I'd throw in my "two cents". On my mom's side I'm Irish/German/Swedish and on my Dad's side I'm Italian/Greek....My Gastro Doc had a lot to say about how he thinks this comes from the "Irish" in me, and it seems like a lot of people here think that too!
  9. Hey Pita --- I've also been gluten-free for a little over a month and without trying I've lost about 7 lbs... And I'm not even working out!! I also have a HUGE appetite and I eat all day long and still I'm loosing. I've been trying to eat a lot of protein. I read this online regarding gaining weight & protein: "...Get more protein. Protein provides...
  10. Hey all! happy Friday!! So, I had the appointment... btw, i must say that I really love my primary care doc - she spent almost an hour with me talking through my new diagnosis, going over blood levels, talking about this change! She's great!! Anyway -- so my iron levels are still VERY low... Pre-diagnosis they were at 18 (normal= 35>160 or so) and...
  11. Thanks everyone... I will be sure to bring up the possibility of a thyroid problem with my doc today... I'll let you know!!
  12. Thanks Spunky! It's encouraging to hear that there is a weird period where you are worse, then it gets better... it's easy to get discouraged! The first two weeks gluten-free were great too, probably because there were no more digestive issues, now all this other weird stuff is coming up... I actually have an appointment with my primary care today and...
  13. Not sure if this is celiac related, but I was thinking about it today. A while back I paid a visit to my doctor because I tend to have shaky hands (usually the left) in the mornings and sometimes other points in the day... This was when I was diagnosed with anemia (about 6-7 years ago). I was very recently diagnosed with Celiac through bloodwork &...
  14. Whole Foods does not carry Kinnikinnick products, unfortunately, neither does Trader Joe's. I have an Omni Foods that carries many of their products (and they're all great!) You can search to see if a store near you has it on their website: Open Original Shared Link
  15. Hi -- I eat the brown rice bread from Enjoy Life - but it must be toasted, and I keep it in the Fridge. I also like the Prarie Bread from Whole Foods in the freezer section... again, toasted. Kinnikinnick bagels are really good - a little pricey, but worth it, I think. good luck!
  16. I just had my first follow-up appointment since my diagnosis today. It was pretty much what I expected, he had told me via email the results of my endoscopy a few weeks ago so I already knew that. He also told me I probably knew more than him because he knows I'm at a computer all day long, plus I basically went in and said, test me for celiac, no, not...

Why can't they open one of those in Boston?! Or at least NYC?! Looks like it was awesome, what a great menu!!!
  18. I can't wait until my next trip to NYC to visit friends but mainly to try that restaurant!! I'm jealous, my sister is going there today and I'll be getting a phone call right after her meal is over to get a full account of what she eats! Also - thanks for that gluten free restaurant link!
  19. Hey! I'm still rather new to this, but here is what my meals have been going like: Breakfast: Tosted Rice Bread (from Trader Joes) with cream cheese or with poached eggs Gluten-Free Waffles (also from TJ's) with syrup gluten-free cereal, Grits with cheese, Cream of Rice hot cereal Lunch: -Baked potatoes -Chips & fruits (on side) -TJ's Rice...
  20. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? They have pesto there that I like, here's a list of what they have gluten-free: Open Original Shared Link Also, I bet Whole Foods or Wild Oats Markets would have a gluten-free pesto -- especially if it's organic. Good luck!
  21. Thanks for the comments everyone! I've already found this site EXTREMELY helpful -- we're lucky to have this. FloridaNative --- looks you were the same as me, did you notice a big change when your iron levels got back to normal? How long did it take you? Also, thanks for the heads up about the 1-month mark 'freak out', I could definitely see myself...
  22. I've heard some balance bars are gluten-free, but some are not -- the ones that I liked are not, so I switched to LaraBars...
  23. Just thought I would share with everyone... My Doctor just let me know that my biopsies came back showing "classic unambiguous Sprue" as he put it. He mentioned that when he was doing the endoscopy he "saw it" but I was so out of it, I couldn't remember exactly what he said... Anyway, I'm relieved, it would have been frustrating if it was negative. It...
  24. THANKS! Yum, Lobster casserole & calamari sound amazing!! That's nice to hear about the manager too, I also have found when I mention the issue, people are very helpful... I had a chef in a small restaurant look up all the stuff I was going to order on-line to make sure it was gluten-free before serving it to me! Such a nice guy!!
  25. Hey -- I just saw something online about Legal Seafoods having a gluten free menu... has anyone gone & tried it? They didn't have a menu available online, but there is one close to me in Chestnut Hill that listed a gluten-free/wine-pairing dinner in July that I missed!! Let me know if anyone has tried it. Thanks! Have a great day...
