    Celiac.com 11/16/2021 - We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering if certain brands and products are gluten-free. One question we see a lot is about canned chili. Specifically, which top brands of canned chili are gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease?

    Not all canned chilis are gluten-free, so it's good to read labels, avoid gluten ingredients, and chooses carefully. Canned chilis that are either labeled gluten-free, or contain no gluten ingredients and list no gluten or wheat among the allergens include:

    Celiac comments

    Last time I looked the Stagg Steakhouse Reserve, the only Stagg chili sold at Costco, had wheat. Keep hoping Costco would stock a gluten-free Stagg chili, we like them all. They sometimes have Amy's but the whole family greatly prefers Stagg.

    Horseless Chili w/o beans is not Gluten Free.

    Oatmeal and wheat protein listed on label.

    I sent email to Hormel asking to clarify, it is NOT gluten-free.

    Wolf brand chili has oats in it. They are not purity protocol, and they are not labeled gluten free. This chili is NOT safe for people with celiac disease!

    Wolf brand does not include wheat as an allergen, and as the article mentions their chilis don't contain gluten ingredients and are not labelled "gluten-free." We do list brands here that are labeled "gluten-free" for those who prefer this.

    Depends on the particular style of chili. Most of the companies make different styles.

    Hormel Chunky Beef Chilli with beans uses "textured vegetable protein" (made from soy flour) and states on the label it is gluten free. The formulation may also vary from country to country.

    Wendy’s canned chili is gluten free.  My husband just brought home canned skyline original chili.  Is it gluten free? It’s not stated on the can and does have dried yeast, spices and natural flavors.

    My wife just brought home some Wendy's canned chili from Costco. I've eaten it at Wendy's and it's on their menu there as gluten free. However, it's not stated as such on the can. On the other hand, wheat is not in the allergen list on the can.

    Three Bean Buffalo Chili (Gluten-Free)
    In fall, I like to make up a big batch of this tasty buffalo chili for my guests. I like to serve it with big pieces of gluten-free corn bread with butter and lots of honey. This low-fat chili is easy to delicious, easy to throw together, and goes great with gluten-free beer.
    Makes 8-10 servings 
    Ingredients:
    1 pound buffalo stew meat, cubed
