How Long For Results After Biopsy?

HI everyone,

I finally had my biopsy to confirm/rule out celiac.  My bloodwork was not all conclusive(one of the tests was positive not all?).  She stopped by quick and said it went well she found some small diverticulitis.   I am going to call to make a follow up appt tomorrow and maybe they can tell me how long the results take. I have started being gluten free today though as soon as I got home.

I would like to know if I have celiac though bc my family said we would become a gluten free household if I was:)

If I had damage to my villi she would have seen it today, right?

Thanks

Jess

No Jess, damage is not always (or even usually) visible to the naked eye.  That's why they do the biopsy and look under the scope, because the changes are usually microscopic (villi are tiny little things, as are the molecules they let through).  Any damage that is visible to the naked eye is usually quite severe unless we are talking inflammation.

Results usually take a week or so. Depends on the facility, but that's pretty typical.

That seems at lot of solution to have put threw you when you already have bowel issues , I will phone them tomorrow because it's sorbitol I have reactions too, thankyou for the input how do you feel now ? I'm not sure I can keep still for that long with my back issues either unfortunately I didn't know it could take that long 😕

The solution I had to drink contained sorbitol and mannitol. I was in the MRI, lying on my back, for about 40 minutes. I was given glucagon partway through, and a gadolinium contrast agent. After I got home there was some diarrhea from the prep solution.
