Cafeteria Food

There is nothing at all in my cafeteria that is gluten-free, and if I'm still hungry after I eat my packed lunch there's nothing except chips for me to get. It's all chicken fingers, fries, pasta, soup... they do have little salads but most have croutons so I'm not going to chance it.

Oh, how the world over uses gluten... (Sorry that was just a little mini-vent.)

Also, on a different note, how do I get people (and doctors) to know about Celiac? I've thought about making little cards/brochures and putting them in my doctor's office. Good idea? Not a good idea?

Thanks!

-Jackie

Another good source for information is the Celiac-Spru Association. You can find their site on the internet. They just sent me a packet with all sorts of information as well as a printed gluten-free Food Product listing that you can touch and take with you. (a bit large, but tranportable).

They have brochures about "What is Celiac Disease". and "Beginning a Diet"...... Many would be appropriate for distribution.

They were very helpful as they will for you as well. Hope this is helpful. I would also like to recommend this site to everyone. A lot of work has gone into this Association. Maybe some of you would like to join in their support for us.

I sometimes feel like this in some bars....everything fried & nothing for me :(

Depending on the type of school you go to (private or public) they may have to offer you gluten-free food.

Try packing more in your lunch, or bring food that fills you up. Or, if you can't fit more food, and your school has them, then eat fruit or veggies. I know how you feel, though. All my school has is pizza (mmm.. it smells good) and cookies.

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
