From What I Can Tell, Negative Blood Screening But Are We Missing Tests?

I know that there are a lot of threads about understanding results...now I see why! I went back to gp to get my blood test results as well as my results for DH skin test. Turned out that my skin wasnt tested properly and she only tested for some other skin conditions.

As far as the blood results go, I think they are negative...

TTG: 5.9 (ref 0-20)

IgA: 3.88 (ref: .70-4.0)

That is all the tests I got done. Is that sufficient? I thought I would know when I went but it turns out I am more confused now than before.

The skin swab she did was for HSV and VZV NAT whatever those are! Both neg anyways. I still believe I have DH but will wait on specialist to see what he has to say...

I had total CBC done as well and the only above normal reading (twice) was hemoglobin was just above the high normal. it  was:

152 (ref 118-151)

i'm not sure which tests were done on you. There are two TTG tests and I don't know which you had (although it appears negative), and I'm assuming that the IgA test was your control test, and not actually a celiac test.

The usual celiac tests are;

TTG IgA and TTG IgA

DGP IgA and DGP IgG

EMA IgA

total serum IgA

AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older tests)

You might want to get the full panel done. Some doctors start with the TTG tests and do more if they are positive but the problem with that is that some people will have negative TTG tests but a positive DGP, which is very specific to celiac disease. If you can, consider requesting more testing.

Good luck.

Get your total IGA checked to make sure your celiac antibody test scores are trustworthy.

I do eat 4 slices of wheat bread with almond butter. Yes it was a reference to my iron consumption.

To give you a frame of reference for pretesting gluten consumption necessary to ensure valid antibody testing, here is the current recommendation for those who have been on a gluten free diet: The daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for at least two weeks. Not sure why you mentioned eggs and chicken. They are not sources of gluten. Was that in reference to dietary iron consumption?

Thanks for your insight. I've been eating wheat bread at least 5 times a week for several months. I've been eating chicken or eggs 5 days a week for at least a year.
