Hows everyones energy levels? I thought mine was on it's way back, but now with another intolerance... yea ummm energy level is down! What is there to help with that? It is hard for me to pick vitamins. Because even the gluten-free ones can have corn in them.  I sometimes feel I am at square 1! I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! I hate this! Specially since I have been doing so well! Then bam! Knock me down! I was running at full speed then got hit in the head with a bat!!!

My energy levels actually seemed to improve a lot once I started a low histamine diet! I've noticed that if I eat a lot of foods that contain higher levels of histamine (I've been eating eggs scrambled with salsa for breakfast daily) I get tired easier. I was officially diagnosed with a sleeping disorder before I was diagnosed with celiac disease - I do not take any medication for it. I also do not take supplements for the histamine intolerance...I just try to keep my levels in check, and I start the day with a Vitamin C and a B-6 (both said to help your body regulate histamine levels) I do not need my anti histamine any more.

Now, I rarely pass out on my boyfriend! I still do - but again, it seems to be because I am increasing my levels of histamine rich foods again. Hey, my diet is strict...I need eggs! But yes, I have noticed a pattern with that. I mean my energy levels were so depleted I fell asleep at work. I was always exhausted, no matter how much sleep I got or what time I got up. Once I feel fully healed, I want to get re-tested to see if I still have a sleeping disorder.

As for corn in your vitamins - GI Pro Health makes a line of vitamins (and probiotics, etc) specifically for the specific carbohydrate diet. Since corn is illegal on this diet, all of their products are free of corn. I take their multi vitamin.

What is your new intolerance? I know how that feels. I did a corn free trial for awhile and then reintroduced it, and it seems I tolerate corn just fine. However...I was gluten free, then I had to cut out soy...then dairy...then yeast, now I'm on a strict low histamine grain free diet. What! Lol. And no chocolate! Tomorrow is Halloween! Grr. But we're healing. You were diagnosed a couple of weeks before I was, so it seems we're in the same boat. Hang in there!

I am not sure what my new intolerance is, I cannot figure it out. I know food diary! My daughter is on a histamine diet. Well lets say she mostly is she falls off on a regular basis. I am not sure how to go about the gluten-free Histamine diet. I am, Corn , soy and Lactose. I have gotten some of my Lactose back. I can eat some cheese and butter now. But not milk or ice cream, Corn is one of the worst for me! I had a gluten-free slice of Cake at my daughters and bam sent me to the restroom, we finally figured it out that corn was in her food coloring she used in the icing. so just that lil bit sent me out. it usually is bathroom issues my body cannot tolerate it. I will look at the link you posted.

THanks for the Vitamin Link! Love it!

No problem! I hope it helps :)

I am soy, lactose, and gluten free as well...and due to being on the SCD diet, I am now corn free too. I'm not sure if you have a histamine intolerance, but for me it's been pretty simple. I went 3 months or so eating foods that were a level 0 or 1..and then slowly started introducing level 2 foods (egg whites are a level 2, tomatoes, strawberries, etc) I am already avoiding the worst offenders (alcohol, cheese, chocolate, soy, etc)

For breakfast, you could have gluten free oats with blueberries, Lundberg rice cakes with almond butter, etc. You might be able to tolerate eggs as well. I scramble mine with unsweetened coconut milk and I've added different vegetables...broccoli, zucchini, and Stop & Shop's fresh salsa.

Lunch is easy, I usually just make a salad with romaine lettuce and sometimes cucumber. I make my own dressing by mixing apple cider vinegar with olive oil, sea salt, and cracked pepper. You could have a sandwich or toast with coconut oil (tastes like butter when melted on toast) since you bake your own bread.

Dinner could be grilled/baked chicken, grilled vegetables, coconut waffles w/fruit...etc. You can have rice, yes? Rice is a 0 on the histamine chart. Mix rice with olive oil and veggies. Not sure if you have a histamine intolerance, but if you do it's not too hard to follow! It's definitely worth it.

Yes, food diary is the best option...I keep telling my boyfriend to start keeping one too, but I never kept one! I just kept eating less and less ingredients until I was really able to pinpoint what was bothering me.

I hope you figure it out soon! I know it's hard. I was bummed when I found out I couldn't eat anymore Progresso lentil soup or hummus. Even the brands of hummus without soy bothered me, so I am completely legume free. My mom made me black bean soup a couple of days ago and I had a small GI reaction, but it wasn't too bad. They used to make me extremely gassy, so I think that's a good sign! I loveee that soup.

I seem to think it is beans that are bothering me now. Ughhh I love beans! I am really going to test this now.

I can eat some Lactose, a bit of soy but believe me I cannot eat much soy.  gluten-free Oats bother me. Or at least they did. Maby I should try them again. this is been over a year and I am still learning! Being gluten-free is one thing but having all these other intolerances is something eles isn't it? I will try beans again next week or something and see if it is them. I will be ticked but will get over it.

Thanks for all the info. Every lil bit helps!

You're welcome! :)

It's really difficult, I know. I try not to push this diet on people, but I have never felt better since being on it. I am finally seeing results that I didn't see on just the gluten free diet alone. I read in an article that the SCD diet used to be the official diet for celiac disease, and then it became just the gluten free diet. I've read so many different articles, but I can try to find that one again if you'd like. I think they found that gluten was the main problem, and so they just told people to eliminate gluten, and then some lucky individuals (such as us!) have to go above and beyond. Totally worth it though :) I do think you'd do great on this diet, since you are already gluten, corn, and soy free. It also wants you to eat low lactose, although some dairy is allowed. Oats are also illegal on this diet, so you're already without those too.

You can PM me anytime if you want more information. I am no expert, but so far I have felt amazing and seen great results on this diet, and it's only been a couple of weeks. :)

Oh I don't eat oats. I did get some of my Lactose back, cannot drink a glass of milk but can eat some cheese and butter! Yumm! I am Corn free, Well I hate the fact that Corn is not considered an allergen , because the American Diet puts in just about everything! OMG!  I am the Above and Beyond person. I sure wish it was just Gluten Free. If you have a great site to go to that would be great. But don't go to great lengths sweetie. I am not sure I can do that. I might do it. I'd have to talk myself into it. You know suffer think about it, suffer more , think more, then finally (after the holidays) do something about it. So yea if you have a good site , that would be so cool. No rush! Thank you so very much! :) Huggz!

I miss oatmeal. I miss a lot of foods...lol. But the end results will be worth it. I keep telling myself I can't go back to those eating habits. Once a week will be enough to cure my cravings...I think/hope. I can't wait until I am fully healed and i can have my cheat days :)

Anyway, here is the link to the official site for the SCD diet. It has tons of information on it, including an alphabetized list of "illegal" and "legal" foods:

I think you'll benefit because you've already omitted most of those foods. It is very strict, but your diet is already strict it seems :\

You do seem like you cook/bake a lot more than I do, so you'll have an advantage. I'm learning as I go :(

There are tons of SCD legal recipes out there.

And it's no trouble! If I can help people, I certainly will do whatever it takes! -hugs-

Thanks! Love that site. Have a great list of legal and illegal foods. I will def. Read up on that. Thanks :)

I make home made meals every day. Make enuf for hubbs to take to work the next day. I don't really Bake much. I used to make bread every day. I have not came up with a good bread I really like, I look up Paleo breads but seems to either have a million things in it or not truly paleo. It will have some kind of corn in it. Any hoo Yea I am going to make some sort of casserole today.

I followed the Autoimmune Protocol Diet which is really strict for a while, but later other foods can be added back into your diet.  Following the AIP diet strictly allows you digestive system to heal and the inflammation to calm down.  Sort of like feeding a sick baby easy to digest food instead of spicy pizza.   It's important to get the inflammation down because chronic inflammation leads to other health problems.  Histamine is released as part of the autoimmune response to gluten.  High histamine levels make you feel bad and can cause breathing problems (worsening asthma), cardiovascular problems (tachycardia), and other autoimmune diseases (Hashimoto's thyroiditis, diabetes) and even mental health problems. Following the low histamine version of the AIP diet allows the body to clear the histamine from our bodies.  Some foods are high in histamine.  Avoiding these makes it easier for our bodies to clear the histamine released after a gluten exposure.   Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and calm it down.  Vitamin D is frequently low in Celiacs.  The B Complex vitamins and Vitamin C are needed to clear histamine.   Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals boosts your intestines' ability to absorb them while healing.   Keep in mind that gluten-free facsimile foods, like gluten-free bread, are not enriched with added vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts are.   They are empty calories, no nutritional value, which use up your B vitamins in order to turn the calories into fuel for the body to function.   Talk to your doctor or nutritionist about supplementing while healing.  Take a good B Complex and extra Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine (shown to promote gut health).  Most B Complex vitamins contain thiamine mononitrate which the body cannot utilize.  Meats and liver are good sources of B vitamins.   Dr. Sarah Ballantyne wrote the book, the Paleo Approach.  She's a Celiac herself.  Her book explains a lot.   I'm so glad you're feeling better and finding your balance!

So I should not eat my gluten free bread?  I will try the vitamins.  Thank you all so very much for your ideas and understanding.  I'm feeling better today and have gathered back my composure!

Some people prefer eating gluten before bed, then sleeping through the worst symptoms at night.  You might want to try that and see if that makes any difference.   Several slices of toast for breakfast sounds okay.  Just try to work up to the Ten grams of gluten.  Cookies might only have a half of a gram of gluten.  The weight of the whole cookie is not the same as the amount of gluten in it.  So do try to eat bread things with big bubbles, like cinnamon rolls.   Yeah, I'm familiar with the "death warmed over" feeling.  I hope you get the genetic test results quickly.  I despise how we have to make ourselves sick to get a diagnosis.  Hang in there, sweetie, the tribe is supporting you.

Thank you, a little expensive but glad to have this source.

@knitty kitty  Thank you very much for the advice. I did the exam this morning, my doctor actually suggested me to take something called "Celiac duo test" in which I first do the genetic test and if it's positive, then I'll have to do the antigen blood test. I have to attend 1 month until my results are ready, so I have some weeks to increase the amount of gluten I eat daily. It will be hard because my health is not the best right now, but I also did a blood test to cheek my nutritional deficiencies. The results will arrive on Tuesday, so I can ask my doctor what should I do to control my symptoms and blood levels during this month. For now I'm resting and paying attention to what I eat— at least I don’t look like a vampire who just woke up, like I did yesterday. I'm still scared because is the first time I've felt this sick, but this is the right moment to turn things around for the better.  I realized that if I eat gluten at lunch I cannot finish the day properly, I become severely tired and sometimes my stomach hurts a lot - let's not talk about the bloating that starts later. Do you think is it ok to eat gluten just in the morning, like some cookies and slices of bread for breakfast?
