Testing Today: Should I Eat Gluten Before?

Well, after a nearly 14 week gluten challenge, I am finally going in to have my blood testing done today. Full Celiac Plus panel which tests every antibody plus the genetic testing...

I wonder if I should eat a big ole bagel before I go in?? lol

I know at this point it probably won't change things, yet for some reason I have the desire to gluten load before the test... I feel like I've been on this damn challenge forever and I'm excited/nervous to just get this testing done, and to feel absolutely certain it is accurate. Which sadly, you can never be absolutely certain of, as nothing is 100% perfect -- in testing, and in life!

Of course, after the test today I have to wait another 9 days to see the gastro and get the results which will be brutal I'm sure. This process is not for the impatient!  :P

You will probably want to keep eating gluten in case the gastro wants to do a endoscopy with biopsy

If you aren't doubled over in pain have a bagel. and one for me.....and one for her....and one for her....! Good luck!

Yeah, I am really anxious to go back on my gluten-lite diet (or gluten-free if the results are positive) but I will continue with the challenge until I see the gastro next week in the event he needs to do an endoscopy. Thanks for the reminder kareng!

Well, I still have 5 days until I see the gastro and get the results of the blood work I had on Monday. My nightmare is that something comes back positive and I have to have an endoscopy, but that it will won't be able to be scheduled for another month or longer...

I feel bloated and I've probably gained ten pounds over the course of this 3 month gluten challenge... I keep thinking about just going back to my gluten lite diet now, and hope that everything comes back negative. And then if anything is positive I can just resume a gluten challenge a few weeks before the endoscopy. Then I think, what's a few more days, just see what the results are next week!

What a physical and emotional struggle this testing process has been... part of me wishes I never undertook it because I feel so much worse than I did when I was just eating gluten lite. Plus now the prospect of potentially having to go totally gluten free is hitting me  :(

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
