Fun New Fruit...

In the freezer section at Wild Oats, I picked up a "new" fruit. It's acai - packed by Sambazon - prefrozen as a pulp. (It had a very small amount of guarana (a plant that contains a caffeine-like molecule) added to it.)

Combined with some soy milk, a banana, some frozen strawberries, frozen pineapple, and a tablespoon of ground flax seed, it makes a very good tasting, and well rounded smoothie. (It's got around 12g of fat (high in omega-3's due to the flax), and about the same amount of protein. Since I can be borderline hypoglycemic, that sort of fat and protein content is important to me!)

Just wanted to share about another smoothie ingredient, since smoothies can make great breakfasts and there just aren't enough gluten-free cereals that bear NO concerns of cross contamination out there. (I know there are some, but I get really tired of "rice crisps" all the time! ;-) )

I get tired of oatmeal. This morning, I ate last nights leftovers. The smoothie you gave us the recipe for sounds delicious!

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
