2 Yr Old Daughter

jo. :) Newbie

hi,

i am after some advice really....

basically my daughter who is 2 and 1/2 has been declared 'cliniclly obese'

on my last visit to hospital to look for possible reasons for this, they requested blood tests for celiac disese,

my daugter is a fit healthy girl, never really been ill, was a happy contented bottle fed baby,

yes she is slighty bigger than the average 2 and 1/2 yr old but she has followed the same growth patten as my 8 yr old, and myself.

but as soon as i hit puberty the weight fell off me and has never returned,

so basically i have brushed off there comments,

until now as she has started to be sick after she has eaten eggs the last few times... could this be connected??

:(

she could just have a egg allergy. It could be so many things. It is not a clear cut, YES it sounds like Celiac though. Just be patient and wait to see what the panel shows.

Better to get the testing done. If she is Celiac or gluten intolerant, a gluten free diet can spare her so many other problems in the future.

I would get her tested to rule out any problems, and if by some chance it isn't celiac disease then you are going to have to modify her diet a little, and take her out for more exercise. I had to do that for my 4 year old when they told me she was 5lbs overweight. It was fun to go run around the yard. The whole family can do it. :D

please dont get me wrong but thats common sense,

see thats the thing, she has been on a fruit, vegetable and fresh meat diet since she was 8 months, when i was 1st told she was over weight, she has fat free milk, she eats very little really,

for example breakfast today was half a banana!

she goes to a swimming club and to tumble tots (the local club where she runs, climbs, dances etc..) she is always on the go.

thanks for comments,

I wouldn't worry about her weight. She just is bigger, some kids are. My 3 year old son is a little chubby too, but I know he eats as healthy as possible as he is diabetic. It's called "baby Fat" for a reason. His dad was too, and now he is 6'0 and 160 lbs. Hardly fat.

You said they ran the panel already right? What did it turn up?

I know it's common sense, but you can't assume too much online. :D

Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

How do I contact someone at celiac.com concerning the cessation of my weekly e-newsletter? I had been receiving it regularly for years. When I tried to sign-up on the website, my email was not accepted. I tried again with a new email address and that was rejected as well. Thank you in advance!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.

Thanks @Scott Adams. Do you know if Kirkland Signature supplements share facility and production lines with other products containing gluten?  I'm worried that I'll react to this brand just like I did with other gluten-free labelled supplement brands.
