Rash when eating gluten

leavesfall

Recommended Posts

leavesfall Newbie

I am 3 years gluten free but when I ate something with gluten (I didn't know that contains) I had some weird rush looking like here Open Original Shared Link and I thought it's just allergy but this is something more serious. I hope it can be treaten. Did someone have the same allergy reaction?

leavesfall,

You might want to post in the DH section.

It is not uncommon for people to have Histimine reaction (rash) after being gluten free for a while.

See this thread it is a little long but you will learn a lot.

And this thread where Knitty Kitty says Niacin can help with the itching if it is DH.

DH stands for  dermatitis herpetiformis if you don't know what it is it is a rash that occurs when people eat gluten and can confirm a celiac diagnosis if people are having trouble getting a positive biopsy.

Whether this is DH or not, it is posted in the D H section already.  No need to post it again.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
