Hi everyone,

i've been experiencing a few symptoms of a gluten intolerance for a few months now and decided to buy a xeliac home test kit before i booked an appointment with the GP.

The results showed an extremely faint line on the test side and im not sure if this means its positive or negative

Its so faint its almost hard to see.

Any help would be great!!

thank you :)

Welcome to the board. Never heard of this test. If you suspect you have celiac keep eating gluten and make an appointment with your doctor.

I've never heard of it either, but found a link selling it.

So mimiii, what did the instructions  in the test kit say about reading the results?  What do they mean?

It looks like a good test that might be helpful for people.

and welcome to the forum! :)

Thank you! i've booked an appointment but this was for the mean time, since here it takes at least 2 weeks to get to see the doctor :(

Thank you for the welcome! :)

That's where i bought mine from, it says in the instructions given with it that it is 96.5% sensitive and 97.3% specific in giving results, and that "ANY red line seen near the 'T' test mark of the cassette after 5 minutes is considered positive", so i emailed them just to double check with my test images and they've confirmed its a positive test, now hopefully the doctors appointment and subsequent blood tests will confirm that!

Great!  It's nice that they confirmed your result.  You may as well take the same test info to your doctor appointment.  They may not accept it but maybe they will.

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—

@GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
