Unusual Gluten Symptom?

I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen: I was glutened over the weekend with all of my usual symptoms. One thing that has never happened before is that from a day or so before the gastro. stuff started, I could hear my heart beating. It was not fast and there was no chest pain or anything like that, but I was very aware of the beating--kind of like when a person gets really nervous. It was on and off for a few days. It's gone now--haven't heard anything all day. The timing is what led me to wonder if it could be related to my gluten reaction. Before I was gluten-free, I had a lot of anxiety & depression--greatly improved now. I know it sounds strange......

I don't think that's ever happened as a gluten-symptom (at least not after going gluten-free). If it didn't speed up or change cadence at all, it doesn't seem un-safe.

Did it feel anxiety related? I think that used to happen to me when I used to get anxiety attacks. And did you have any other anxiety (attack) related-symptoms. It could be that you got a low-grade anxiety attack, brought on by the gluten. Hope you're feeling better, and good luck figuring it out.

I get that when I'm glutened. I don't ever notice it any other time only when I'm suffering from a gluten slip-up. And, like you describe there is never any pain. I'm just conscious of my heart beating.

Merry Christmas!

Cleveland Bob, Thank you for sharing that with me. I try not to equate everything I feel as something connected to gluten, but the timing was too much of a coincidence. I'm 6 months into this and still learning. Merry Christmas to you :) --Patti

im not yet DX with celiac disease, but pretty good chance i have it due to my history. My endo test is this friday so i will know then. But reading your posts about anxiety....I was very curious, because when my symptoms started I was having pretty bad anxiety attacks....it got better cause im seeing someone now for it, but it was very strange when they started because I never used to have any problems growing up.

So for those of you that have/had anxiety have u noticed it get better with the gluten-free diet? :)

Yes, my anxiety did get a lot better on the gluten free diet. It took around 4 months or so to see a difference. At that time, I felt calmer and more positive when I woke up in the morning. I have not had a panic attack in that time, but probably being aware of my heartbeating while glutened may mean that there are still issues with anxiety. I also feel that taking vitamin B6 has helped me with the anxiety & depression. Best of luck with your test on Friday--let us know how you do :) --Patti

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
