Howdy.

I am going to be in Washington DC next weekend (16th-20th) and would love it if someone could give me a little direction :)

Is anyone from there, or know of any celiac organizations in DC?

Thanks!!

- Michelle

They have a Legal Seafoods which has a gluten-free menu.

Thank you so much :) Any info is good info ;) We'll be staying right in DC, did you say there's a Whole Foods *in* DC?

I have lots of food allergies - but gluten-free menu restaurants are the best about it (in my experience) because they actually pay attention to details. So I really appreciate knowing what gluten-free menu places they might have there.

Thanks again :)

Michelle-

This info is from a friend in DC

First-Here is a link that has some places from the Celiac group in the area. You'll have to look to see which ones are actually in DC as opposed to NoVa or MD. Open Original Shared Link

And, to supplement it, here is what she added based on looking at the list:

"I'm looking at the list and I've been to a few so here are my two cents if she wants:

Legal Seafoods - obviously you and i know it's AMAZING there - if she's got the money for it!

The Baja Fresh is pretty good - there are a few in town - kinda cali-mex fast food - not greasy - pretty good

Outback and PF Changs is always good, but I don't know if they are in the city...

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse - good but pricey

Chipotle - good for lunch, good price - big burrittos!

Red Sage - nice restaurant downtown near my office - sorta cali-mex food

Don Pablo's - I know there's one in the Potomac Yards strip mall, but you have to drive there - okay food - kinda has a TGIF feel but mexican

Chicken Out - There's one in the Ballston Mall - pretty good

Clyde's - nice restaurant - I know there's one in Georgetown and a new one in Chinatown - medium priced, nice atmosphere, lots of businesspeople go there

McCormick & Schmick's - the list says it's only in Reston but there's one downtown - again another business-type lunch place but good food and okay priced

I think that's it - I'm sure she'll find lots of options in the city and there are Whole Foods all over the place.

Thank you so so so much!! Fabulous information - all of it will help me a lot! :)

Sorry that it's taken me so long to get back to you - I'm in the midst of finals & trying to study/take tests/etc. But I am very grateful for your searching :)

p.s. Tell your friend thanks too! :)

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
