Did anyone ever feel this way after completely gluten free?

I have been seriously Gluten Free now for 3 weeks. Watching everything I eat, and use.

Before whenever I accidently ate gluten, or new I ate gluten, I had pretty intense pain on the top of my feet, mainly just one foot. I used a heating pad every single night to help aleviate the joint pain in my foot.

Now that I've been totally gluten free for three weeks, I have noticed that foot pain has calmed down, but suddenly I'm having pretty severe pain in both of my calves. It has been slowly getting worse every day.

Has anyone else experienced an increase in leg pain after going gluten free? I'm 35 so I don't know if its arthritis, I don't know it could be I guess.

I also notice my depression is a lot worse. I'm very teary.

Anyone else experience anything like this shortly after going gluten free??

Kim07 :(

Hi Kim--I thought I'd reply so you wouldn't have to reply to yourself anymore :P . I tend to get cramps in my calves mainly at night while laying down, like if I stretch, they cramp up in that position. I also recently have been getting cramps in my feet where the arch is. This is happening a lot and is annoying.

Yes, I get HORRIBLE LEG CRAMPS! It usually starts out like a "restless leg" but then it get worse, and tighter until it is just complete pain! Sometimes it helps when I stretch it, but sometimes that makes it worse! It's kind of always different, but I've been noticing lately that it's usually on the days that I eat eggs. The last time I ate eggs was Saturday, and of course, I got the pain. But since I haven't been eating any dairy or eggs since then, I haven't had the cramps.

I noticed your is usually in your calves, but mine usuaslly starts in my thigh and knee area and then eventually it is the whole leg. And it's only one at a time, never both.

And also, everyone keeps telling me (as I have only been gluten free for about 2 and a half weeks) that it gets worse before it gets better. ;) As crappy as that sounds.......

Thank you Jersey, for taking pity on me :(

Your sweet, gosh what you have to do hear for someone to respond for gosh sake, jeez!!!! :P

Yeah, it's wierd they the pain has moved from the top of my foot to my calves, I think it might have to do with dairy, which sucks, but if giving it up helps it will be worth it

Anyway, thanks

Hello danikali, :)

I'm only about 4 weeks gluten free, and I've also heard it gets worse before it gets better. Gosh I'm sorry you have the 'restless leg' symptom going on as well,

I also believe that mine might be worse on days that I have dairy. I don't want to give it up, but it looks like I might be heading in that direction as well.

If my leg cramps get better, it will deffinitely be worth it.

Thanks for responding,

Kim 07 :)

I went totally gluten-free about a year ago. It took around six months to start getting results. Pains have been coming and going, moving from place to place before and since that time. However, about two months ago there was such pain in my legs I couldn't walk for nearly a month, and standing was difficult. The only thing I could point to was accidentally using some canned tomatoes that had high fructose corn syrup in it. It may have been coincidence, as there was pain for while up to that time. But I was managing and there wasn't any signs of any rapid changes until after the accidental no-no (I have to avoid sugars).

Fortunately it's getting better day by day, but there are still some lingering pains. I think I still have foods to eliminate though. Possibly casein.

Thanks for the list too makes me realise why I still get symptoms after cutting gluten , all that reading has just made sense to why I'm still struggling , thankyou Scott Adams very insightful , I've been baking to and there is xanthum gum in the flour , I understand now why I still have issues with that too, and ive had to cut dairy also , i had a terrible flare few months ago and my throat also was very irritable and I had sinuses issues all makes sence 👍

Thankyou yes I read up on it beforehand , because or my trapped nerve when I have a bowel flare up it's impossible to keep still  which I will have to do for the MRI ,and it's so painful , and I know if this is what I'm thinking it to be it will cause me terrible issues , sometimes I get to the point where I just want to diagnose myself and act accordingly, because I've been at this year's , and I clearly have all the symptoms , it's so frustrating when you have all this going in and still feel no further ahead 😳
