I've got the Enterolab test kit, but won't be sending it in until probably tomorrow. So I'm highly suspicious about things, but don't have anything confirmed yet. So here's a question for you all, because now I'm puzzled.

I've been mostly gluten free (the obvious stuff) since Thanksgiving. On Friday I broke down at my favorite restaurant and had quite a bit of their unbelievably fabulous white French bread, plus a dessert that undoubtedly had gluten (small cream puff things). Saturday I seemed OK, no huge reaction yet. Today (Sunday), after my usual egg breakfast, about an hour or two later I just started feeling terrible with a set of symptoms I've had numerous times before (although not all the time). Upset digestive system, going lots of times with semi-D, horrible stomach pain, just HURTING like crazy, and feeling nauseated. This all took about 4 hours to pass, and now I'm feeling better although I'm afraid to eat.

SO....could a gluten reaction take a full day+ to show up? I ate dinner Friday night about 7:00, so this is about 36 hours, and oddly enough, it didn't really get full blown until I ate breakfast. I eat eggs all the time, so shouldn't have been that.

Whenever this type of reaction has occurred before, I had always assumed it was from something I had quite recently eaten...the previous meal...but sometimes what I ate didn't make sense. But if reactions can be delayed 36 hours, that's a different matter and I'm wondering if any of one have had this happen.

Also...my "reactions" seem to vary....usually digestive upset, but sometimes just nausea or nausea and D, and the burning hurting is more occasional but I've never figured out what caused it.

I'll be glad when I get the Enterolab results so I know SOMETHING definite.

Oh yeah, that is not at all unusual. My symptoms vary to right off the bat to 24 hours, and then the symptoms vary so it's hard to pinpoint the culprit. As a matter of fact, it took me months to realize that the styrofoam tasting wafer at communion was wheat! DUH! Now my symptoms are more neuralogical (brain fog, headache, crushing fatigue) than physical. The D has turned to C. That's what makes this such a 'fun' disease. Hope you get your answers soon!

So what do you do about communion now Annette? I've been wondering about what I'll do when I go gluten-free.

I'm Lutheran, so I'm able to substitute any non-leaven cracker for the communion wafer. I've been using Ka-me rice cruunch crackers, plain. I would break one up and give a small portion in a wax paper envelope that I'd staple together to my pastor for him to bless with the rest of the communion wafers. And only a small portion since the wine in the individual cups is barely more than a sip. I figure anything would work, so long as it was non-leavened. My brother is Roman Catholic now, and I went to my niece's first communion. There they allow everyone to take communion, but of course I didn't because substitution with a gluten-free wafer isn't allowed. There are online places to order your gluten-free wafers, but talk with your pastor to see what is allowed by your church.

      I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
