I stated to feel great about a month into my gluten-free diet, but 2 weeks ago i started getting there awful pains right between my ribcage down to my belly button, the pain will sometimes radiate to the sides of my ribs....I went to see my Dr and even touching that area between my ribs made it hurt. The pain comes and goes now, but still hanging around. He put my on prilosec, but i dont think thats what it is....

They did a full CAT scan of my abs/pelvic area, upper GI series Xrays, and blood tests for my liver functions...everything so far checks out ok....On top of this i lost another few pounds which i cant afford to lose. The only good thing i noticed is that my fingernails grew fast and long and they are not chipping like before, which means something is absorbing. But whats the deal with all this other stuff?!?

I have gotten the same type of pains. However, I have in these two months been accidentally glutened. It could be an accidental glutening or it could be the body continuing to cleanse itself. With many years of gluten in our bodies it could take a fair bit of times to cleanse the body.

I have heard of a lot of people getting better and then worse. I had to cut out dairy - after I ate it, esp. with acidic stuff (anything with both tomatoes and cheese was killer) I would have double over pain. Your description dounds more like an ulcer, but they would have found that in your tests. Did they test for small intestine bacterial overgrowth (h pylori)? Could be that or a problem with a food other than gluten, such as dairy, soy, corn, nightshades, or a number of other suspects.

First if it is heartburn do not take prilosec. Bad stuff. Try deglycerized licorice tablets by Enzamatic therapies. It helped me. Also a teaspoon of applecider vinegar before meals is supposed to help. Usually there is not enough acid rather than too much. Prilosec will only make it worse in the long run. I agree with the above post about ulcer. Gluten intolerance or celiac can set you up for bacterial problems, candida overgrowth and parasites. Good luck.

Well they ruled out the ulcer, nothing in any of my test suggests that i have one...My doc suggested that i stay on prilosec....i personally dont want to, im going to see my GI today too see what he thinks....but all my blood work and tests were ok...so im not sure....??

My doctor told me a good way to test if you have too much or too little acid is to take a tablespoon or two of lemo juice after you get your symptoms. If they get worse, you have too much acid. Better then too little acid. I had too much acid, despite what I have read about some celiacs having too little. The lemon juice gave me a lot more pain and indigestion that what I had before I took it. Now I take a Pepcid AC before acidic meals. Haven't tried Prilosec. I was on Protonix for a while, but insurance gave me trouble, so I gave up.

Any one who knows me, knows the hell I've been through since the beginning of Dec....Started with a bad cold, then horrable acid reflux (still fighting that), and then what they thought was a rectal prolapse...I was sent to a surgeon but the surgeon doesn't think it was a rectal prolapse but instead some sort of disfunction with the muscles in the intestines. I too have the same pain your describing and been sent for more tests/ rushed to hospital in the last 8 weeks more times than I care to account. I've come to the conclusion that doctors have no clue about anything. I think it has a lot to do with the body going into "shock" because after so many years of eating gluten and then BANG this whole food group is gone ! Anyway, I'm just biding my time because the surgeon is refering me to a colonic specialist for even more tests!

Hugs

Bridget

OMG that sounds awful...well the lastest thing with me is the GI that dx with celiac disease, i went to him and he thinks b/c of all the inflamtion i had due to the damage and the irritation, that i could be having spasms. He said usually belly button pain is connecting with ur small intestines....and the stomach pain (which comes and goes, kind of a gnawing thing) could also be due to the same reason. he saw no ulcers/reflux in the CTscan or GI xrays....so he gave me this med called levsin...took it once, seemed to help, but the side effects were god awful for me, i would rather deal with the stomach spasms....

AND im putting 2 and 2 together here, this all started right after i ate McD's french fries, and we all know whats going on with that mess right now. OVer time though it is getting a little better, still hasnt gone away...

Have you had your gall bladder checked? Sometimes they can't see it in regular scans - it is kinda hidden.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
