Hi Romeo, I'm no doctor (ha ha - a little celiac humour) but my understanding is that lactose does not damage the villi. What can happen is that non-diagnosed celiacs are often mis-diagnosed lactose intollerant. For example, the damaged villi makes it hard to digest the lactose. My son had been diagnosed LI for many years and after a couple months of gluten-free could eat dairy to his heart's content.

a lactose intolerance means you don't produce the enzyme to break the complex sugar of lactose into its components. thus it makes it through the intestines where bacteria in your system can digest it and release gas as a byproduct, giving you bloating and gas as symptoms. it does not internally harm you. casein intolerance has been reported to cause intestinal damage (flattened villi), but it is very rare. it is, however, an immune response, and isn't something to tempt, as the continued heightened immune response isn't good for the body over all.

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
