Is It The Gluten?

Ok- so it's been months of wondering and trying some different things. My son is almost 8 months old. He has had severe gas problems since day one. I have heard it all from stress, to dairy, to wheat and to some babies are just gassy. So wanted to post this and see what some of you may think. Luckily his symtoms are not as severe as many of what I have read. Maybe more like an food sensitivity. He doesn't have diahrea- but very constipated. He pushes all day long it seems and when he does go - it is so hard and sometimes painful and screaming while he goes. He was strictly breastfeed for the first 6 mons. And even when he was only taking that he would go an easy 7 days without relieving himself. He has painful bouts of gas- he wakes up at night screaming usually 2 to 3 times. I massage his belly almost every night and sometimes it feels so hard. and For him to be completely relaxed is unusual! He is eating three times a day now and I make pretty much all the food or he gets Earth something. I am totally dairy free and wheat free but I eat oatmeal almost every morning and he gets oatmeal and I noticed that soy sauce and worshtire sauce also have gluten. Did or does any of these sywtoms sound like those of intolerance to gluten? I am going to stop eating gluten and stop eating the oatmeal and stop giving that to him- since I read oatmeal can be linked to gluten. we'll see if that works? How long does that take to see? The only good thing is the pounds are just dripping off me! I would greatly appreciate anyone's advice!!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
