Hello,

I really just want to get to the bottom of my stomach issue, and so I was looking for guidance.

for several years now (approx 8-10) i have been dealing with stomach issues, ive had several tests back when it first stsrted and they diagnosed me with IBS, however in the past 2 years i have gotten so much worse. Im struggling to get doctors to take it seriously and its really starting to affect my life :-(

for the past 2 years, i am vomiting regularly (once a month - food never comes up however), some of my other symptoms include:

- upper abdominal pain: feels like its being squeezed, feels bruised (even hurts to move around

- chest pain that comes on rapidly lasts a minute and disappears

- lost 2 stone in weight and cant put it back on (in the severe underweight range now)

- nausea and vomiting

- upset stomach - mucus

- stomach either severely bloats, or sucks in like its being pushed down on

- night sweats

- lower abdominAl pain in lower left by my large intestine

- lethargic

- loss of appetite / feeling full after a few mouthfuls.

i have had blood tests and an endoscopy to which they didnt take a biopsy. I have to go for another to get the biopsy (at the fault of the doctor for not doing it in the first place), ive had intolerance tests which wheat was at the top.

Does this sound like celiac? Any guidance would be much welcome?

thank you

Is the mucous you speak of with he upset stomach showing up in your stool or when you vomit. You say you don't vomit up food. That's a little confusing. But yes, most or all of the symptoms you describe could be caused by celiac disease, directly or indirectly.

Hey, sorry for the confusion

yes mucus is when my tummy is upset, or feels horrible (which is most of the time)

as for the vomit its acid 🙂

(In my stool or even without me going to the toilet)

It definitely sounds to me like most if not all of your symptoms could be related to undiagnosed celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. That said you need to keep eating gluten until you get a blood panel done and possibly until you get a follow up biopsy after that.

Unfortunately there is currently no test for gluten sensitivity, So you may want to consider a gluten-free diet in any case, even if your celiac results are negative, just to see if the diet relieves your symptoms.

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Thank you for the links to the articles.  Interesting reading. I'll be telling my brother in law because he has a lot of pain

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
