Does fish oil really help recovery?

I’ve read in places that taking 3 fish oil pills per day helps in the recovery and symptoms in the accidental ingestion of gluten. The coating of the oil gives the intestines a “cushion” for healing. Has anyone had any experiences to help verify whether this is true?

Hello. I have tried taking cod liver oil and barleans (non fish based) products over the years. I preferred cod specifically over fish oil.

From my experience I found them to be helpful from an overall anti inflammatory stand point, not specific remedy to a cc incident. Although certainly gi inflammation is a part of gluten cc. Years back I actually worked in that industry so I used cod liver oil more often as it was available to me more often, and/or I was able to get discounts.

I try very hard to avoid cc. I don't eat out etc. I likely deal with other issues than NCGS. I find accupuncture and probiotics helpful too. I watch my b vitamins, vitamin D, and magnesium levels as well after a cc exposure. 

Avoid the exposure as best you can.

I think you would be better off using AN-PEP enzymes like GliadinX, an sponsor here, which has been shown to break down gluten in the stomach, to deal with possible contamination concerns. Fish oil is still good for you so you might want to keep taking it, just not for that purpose.

      Hi  - Anyone have any experience with these? I bought them at Costco thinking they must be gluten-free, but now I see Natural Flavors and Spice in the ingredients. There's no Gluten Free labeling. However the Costco site and two other sites say it's gluten free. Anyone know?

      Yes, I doubt you can find a perfectly safe restaurant--perhaps a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, but in general, very few of them exist, and they tend to be in larger cities. Super sensitive celiacs should probably just avoid eating out.

      Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal.       Welcome to the forum, @Kenz! Eating out is the number one threat to anyone with celiac disease. The best advice I can give is "don't"! Especially if you are supersensitive. The biggest problem isn't avoiding gluten in what you order but in how it is prepared and handled back in the kitchen where cross contamination can and does happen at multiple stages before it gets to you. You would need to have conversations with the cooks and receive assurance that your food is cooked on clean surfaces and in clean pans and handled with clean utensils, separate from anything that contains gluten.

      I am new to this and have severely struggled to find places I can eat where I will not get sick. I am super sensitive to any cross contamination and gluten. I throw up, use the bathroom, get disoriented, can’t walk, can’t even lift my arms, legs, or head. It’s honestly so scary when I come in contact with gluten. I do live in a town where there aren’t many options. I live in Gadsden al. So if anyone has any recommendations of places to eat that would be so helpful .
