Hi everyone! I am a graduate student at the University of California San Francisco and am building an app that would help connect people with various chronic illnesses. The idea is that individuals can make a profile with there interests and background and look through different profiles to find someone in a similar situation to chat with (over phone or zoom). The idea is similar to that of modern data apps but with a focus on building friendships with those dealing with similar illnesses to help cope.  I grew up with a  mother with Celiac at a time when finding gluten free options was extremely difficult and so this community is near and dear to my heart. Does this seem like something that would be helpful to you? If so reach out to me with feedback! I am also looking for people to test out our app in the near future so let me know if you would be interested!

Hi celiacson2 and welcome to the forum.

I'm a bit of a technophobe - this forum is about as technical as I get - but I realise I'm being left behind and need to do something about it!  But what you describe sounds very interesting.    I hope others will chime in soon - but my question is, could you run this on a computer or is it just for smartphones?

Hi Cristiana, thanks for your reply! We hope to have both a website for computers and a smartphone app where people can connect. We are still early in development so definitely open to suggestions, but don't want to leave anyone behind who might not have a smartphone.

I think that would be valuable to have both options.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
