Can I remove nuts from the recipe section of Breaking the Vicious Cycle

Almost every recipe in Breaking the Vicious Cycle (2020 edition) lists tree nuts like almonds or almond flour as an ingredient, I have a fatal tree nut allergy, can I remove the tree nuts from each recipe in the entire book, or are the tree nuts and tree nut flours required?

I want to start dieting from the book's recipes, but just about every single recipe I looked at said to use tree nuts or tree nut flour as an ingredient.

Note: I have no allergy to peanuts/coconuts/etc. (only tree nuts).

I doubt anyone could give you a single answer that would satisfy every recipe in the book, as I believe that each recipe would require its own approach with how to replace any main ingredient used in it.

To me it sounds like you might need to get a different book that does not use nut flours as a basis, but I’m sure you could figure out a way to replace nut flour in each recipe in the book, but it would take some time to figure it out.

I looked in a great gluten free cookbook (from America’s Test Kitchen) which explains why they put in the ingredients they do.  Here are some reasons they have for using almond flour in baking recipes:

  • Less starchy.
  • More “chew”.
  • Add richness without greasiness (gluten free flours sometimes don’t absorb the fats as well as wheat flour).
  • Contributes richness, heft and fat.

So going the other way, I would guess that if you omit the almond flour in baking, you might have results that are starchier, softer texture, greasier, and less rich.

      In addition to cutting out oats, you may want to investigate any medications or supplements you're taking - they can sometimes contain gluten.  You can check medication ingredients online at sites like DailyMed (www.dailymed.nlm.nih.gov).

      thank yo, i still eat a bit of dairy and a fair amount of processed foods. I wonder if I have sibo... I will look into that

      I think the best you will be able to do is to find out if gluten, or at least wheat, barley or rye is an intentional ingredient in a smoke product and only the manufacturer can answer that question. Since smokes are regulated by the AFT and not the FDA, allergens are not required to be declared in the labeling.

      yes i understand that pectin is gluten free ty.  i want to know if any cigars are gluten free its a simple question

      Welcome to the forum, @brian weinstein! Gluten is a protein found in wheat barley and rye kernels. Pectin is a polysaccharide (a very complex sugar) found in the cell walls of fruits and vegetables. It is most commonly used as a thickening agent in food products, particularly jellies. So, pectin is naturally gluten free. That is not to the same as saying the cigar is gluten free.  Personally, I am reluctant to text you. I think most of us would feel the same way. Too many people already have access to our cell phone numbers.
