Hi everyone,

I am finding myself reacting to gluten free almond butter.  Anyone else? Please help. So tired of this disease.  I am already dairy free gluten free and finding myself able to eat less and less foods.

Thank you

@Raquel2021,

Sorry to hear you're still having some problems.

I suggest you try the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, designed by a doctor with Celiac Disease herself, Dr. Sarah Ballantyne.  The AIP diet has been scientifically studied and shows the diet helps reduce inflammation and helps in healing the digestive tract.

The AIP diet doesn't include grains, rice, corn, legumes (beans), nuts and seeds.  These foods contain plant Lectins that are difficult to digest and promote inflammation.  A few weeks on the AIP diet and the inflammation is greatly reduced.  Then a wider variety of foods are reintroduced.

The AIP diet has worked really well for me.

Thanks for the reply. I am already pretty much doing that diet except for I still eat beans/nuts. I do green smoothies and aim for 5 to 6 cups of vegetables a day. I don't eat processed foods and no sugar. Jus meat and vegetables.  Gluten free bread once a day. I have lost a lot of weight and I am always hungry. My iron is always low I take a supplement and also taking b12 due to neurological symptoms.

Do you eat other veggies besides those in your green smoothie?

Some vegetables must be cooked in order for the nutrients to be available for absorption in the digestive tract.

Neurological symptoms can be caused by B12 deficiency, but also we need Thiamine B1, Riboflavin B2, Niacin B3, Pyridoxine B6, and Folate B9 to help Cobalamine B12 and iron function properly and to help with those neurological symptoms.

Thiamine deficiency can cause neurological symptoms.  Thiamine is lost the quickest.  One can develop symptoms within a few days.  Symptoms may vary according to how much Thiamine is included in the diet.

Thiamine is needed to regulate the immune system and clear histamine from the body.

Some Celiacs develop additional food sensitivity because they have a high level of histamine which their bodies are having trouble clearing.  The Mast Cells need Thiamine so they won't keep releasing histamine.

Make sure you include healthy Omega Three fats in your diet.

Do you have an allergy to peaches?

Thanks. I also cook half of the vegetables I eat. It took me hundreds of dollars to find a B12 supplement I could handle so I am now on the hunt for a B complex I can tolerate.  I feel funny whenever I eat apples, peaches and mangoes so I do not eat those fruits. Thanks again for all the replies.  I have been gluten free for over 2 years and still experiencing symptoms.  Not as severe but they are still there.

@Raquel2021...I share your frustration. I've been on a very strict gluten-free diet for 10 years but seem to be getting worse. My gut seems to be more inflamed than ever, I've been loosing hair and most recently, I've started to get pain in my spine (accompanied by a big bruise like mark in the middle of my spine). I've seen my GP but it was a complete waste of time. I don't touch dairy, grains, pulses, nuts or seeds. Occasionally I have a weak black americano, white potatoes and rice cakes. I've been reading the Paleo Approach kindly recommended by @knitty kitty which is amazing but haven't managed to go 100% AIP yet. Dear @knitty kitty, do you have any favourite AIP cookbook that you could recommend to us? Perhaps having some interesting recipes would make the AIP diet a bit easier.

Raquel2021 Collaborator

Thanks Miriam. I am not giving up nuts as I have to eat something.  I also have Hashimotos so I think that's part of the problem too. Thanks for replying.  I think I had celiac for 10 years plus and that's is also the issue.

I've tolerated this b12 really well, I take it in the am before any food:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BHUZ68/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

B Complex without many additives that some have, methyl forms, I really like it:  https://www.procapslabs.com/Products/High-Potency-B-Complex/301320/

I also take additional thiamine, really helped with my respiratory and asthma:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G7HPK39/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Peter Osborne, the No Grain No Pain guy also has some really good quality vitamins without additives that might cause you problems, although they are more costly:  https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/

@Raquel2021I also have Hashimoto. These days if I eat any nut butter I get itchy skin on my right calf, it's strange as it always happens in the same area. I have noticed that I can't tolerate any starch (i.e. tapioca, potato ...) or gums (guar, xanthan etc) which are used in large quantities in gluten-free bread and other products. When I first went on gluten-free diet I was eating these products freely and now I'm convinced they further damaged my gut. Be careful with your gluten-free bread and avoid plant milks that contain gums.

Raquel2021 Collaborator

Thanks Miriam. This is exactly how I feel with starches too. What are we supposed to eat then? What do you do for calcium.  I cannot tolerate almond milk either or any plant based milk.

MiriamW Contributor

I guess we can get lots of calcium from green leafy vegetables but I share your frustration. I'm very much hoping that my gut will calm down at some point and I'll be able to reintroduce at least some more 'normal healthy' foods which are now causing problem. Re plant based milk, sometimes I have plain coconut milk without any additives in it. But that's boring too as I can't add it to coffee or to any cereal...

Raquel2021 Collaborator

Thanks . I tried silk coconut milk that made feel sick.

MiriamW Contributor

Silk brand seems to have far too many ingredients including Sunflower Lecithin and Gellan Gum.

Coconutmilk (Filtered Water, Coconut Cream), Cane Sugar, Contains 2% or Less Of: Vitamin and Mineral Blend (Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2, Vitamin B12), Dipotassium Phosphate, Sea Salt, Sunflower Lecithin, Gellan Gum, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C To Protect Freshness), Natural Flavor.

Thank you.  I am in Canada and there are not a lot of options available.  Any suggestions? I drink green smoothies which are made with leafy greens but I hear this is not enough for calcium

MiriamW Contributor

I'm in the UK and normally buy Plenish or Rude Health brand. I can't stomach coconut cream or oil but milk from a carton is ok.

Ok. Thank you

There is no Gluten in Almond Butter.   I eat Almond Butter every morning and my antibodies are normal.

Raquel2021 Collaborator

Thanks. It must be a food sensitivity for me.

Not almond butter I had allergy testing done apparently I'm only allergic to pecans and walnuts but almonds, peanuts, hazelnut etc are fine but I'm too afraid to even try LOL. I just try not to take a chance.  I do have an issue with sunbutter! I get terrible cramps and pain and my whole body felt like I was coming down with the flu my muscles hurt and my heart was racing.  However I ate some of the free2be sunbutter cups and I didn't have an issue! I wonder if it depends on the brand?  I love my seed butter but my stomach just can't tolerate it.

@jeffpine, please realize that GliadinX is not designed to allow you to eat large amounts of gluten without celiac repercussions. It is designed to counteract cross contamination situations where you might be exposed to small amounts of gluten accidentally such as you might get in a restaurant when you order something that should be gluten free but it is cooked on the same grill with stuff that has wheat. Also remember that the absence of noticeable uncomfortable reactions doesn't necessarily equate to no damage happening to the small bowel lining.

Welcome to the forum, @Dema! The current recommendations for the "gluten challenge" leading up to the day of testing are the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) daily for at least two weeks. I hope this helps you in your decision. This information represents more recently updated guidelines but you will find older info giving more relaxed guidelines that were found to be not reliable.

Hi everyone :). I think I have a high likelihood of having celiac and will please Gd have a blood test in 2 days time confirming this. over the past two weeks I’ve been on and off (to max 5 days) gluten to cope with my symptoms however now I can see online that I’m supposed to be having 2 servings of gluten every day for 6 weeks, which isn’t even my normal diet.  should I reschedule my blood test. I would really love for it to be diagnosed soon. Would appreciate any advice! thanks!

WOW WOW WOW, your site did it for me: like this, i saw the ads for GliadinX and followed the product. There were several knockoffs. my engineer friend seperated them and found one at the local CVS at a bargain price. So yesterday I tried it. Twice. Lunch and dinner. works fine. Much obliged,

I am actively dealing with a ray of issues, my skin, eyes and digestive even though not eating wheat.Menopuase has activated so much right now, considering its getting worse with my health. I have learned so much thanks to this website.I wasn't properly told of my celiac disease which was confirmed by colonoscopy and endoscopy in 1994 the same year I gave birth to my first son, my tolerance level was horrible. After being diagnosed and staying away from wheat continued problems. My chiropractor at the time in 2007 had my blood work sent off and turns out I have more food allergies. I told my primary of my celiac disease in 2000 and continued to see that doctor up until May if this year 2025 considering my celiac disease was ignored, disregarded and what Im currently going through and been through. I assumed my celiac disease was " registered " at the time in 1994 just as pregnancy and other ailments are reported. I was shocked to learn that its not a mandated reportable disease not documented by the state from hospitals which I for one think it should be considering all the medical gaslighting im dealing with which is causing depression. Im told not worry about other, well I am and its NOT right. It needs to be documented so others don't suffer and go through this nightmare. Im seriously ready to go down to the mayors office and make some noise. Thoughts?
