Jin Dandy Grits Now List Wheat On Label

Since I can no longer have my Quaker quick (or any other type) grits, I'm searching all over for something safe. Dixie Lily certifies their grits are gluten free but I haven't been able to find them yet...not in either of my Publix stores. Anyway, I had seen somewhere on a message board that people had eaten Jim Dandy with no reaction but when I read the bag, the new label says' may contain wheat' :o in bold font. So just in case you happen to have these (meaning you live in the south - ha ha!) Jim Dandy grits are not safe on gluten free diet now. Gosh - this is a pain sometimes!

If you are in the South, you should be able to get Dixie Lily grits and corn meal. They do not process oats or wheat so according to them, they should not be cross comtaminated with gluten.

I finally found McCann's steel cut oats which are certified to be gluten free. Has anyone tried them and if so, did you feel okay after eating? They now offer travel packs which I'd like to travel with but only if I find others who actually eat them. Anyone?

I have been eating Quaker, but not the quick grits, I think they are called "old fashioned grits". I did look and seems I did buy the quick grits this past time. Why can't you eat the Quaker? Did they change something that I missed? LOL! The label looked okay.

I bought some Kroger brand "Old Fashioned Grits" yesterday. They did not have wheat or any other gluten containing item on the label.

Quaker told me flat our they have cc issues regarding gluten and they may be safe but for me, I'm not taking chances. Quaker said not only should I not eat their oat products, but their corn meal, cornbread mix or any of their grits. So I am following their advice. I assume they will eventually catch up with Jim Dandy on labeling and put the disclaimer that their products may contain wheat since they put wheat in their cormbread mixes, do not clean lines between processing grits. I was bloated after eating the grits once I'd been on the diet about two weeks...could not for the life of me figure out what made me sick but the only thing it could have been was the Quaker quick grits.

Great. <_< I have a 5 lb bag of Jim Dandy in the Pantry. I'll look for Dixie Lilly. thanks so much for the info. I've been wondering about all of that. What about Martha White? Anyone checked with them?

When I cleaned out my pantry after dx, my particular Martha White cornbread mix had wheat listed very clearly on the label. I had three different corn bread mixes (including Jiffy brand) all which listed wheat...what is wrong with these manufacturers....why must they add wheat to every freakin' thing?!

With regards to Jim Dandy, even though the package says it may contain wheat, their rep. on the phone said they do not test for gluten so I think that's a CYA statement on the bag. So I'm not saying don't eat Jim Dandy...was just shocked to see the label change regarding the possibility of wheat.

Thanks for the info on Quaker. I will be looking for some new grits next time I go to the store.

      Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

      Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
