Gall Bladder Removal

I've read where several of you are having gall bladder problems and facing possible gall bladder removal. You may have read a couple of weeks ago where I was having problems, and a gb functioning test showed that my gb did not function at all. zip. zero. I consulted with 3 drs. all of whom agreed it needed to be removed promptly to avoid pancreatitis and other possible infection.

I didn't announce it ahead of time, but Tuesday, May 2 was the day. If you're facing the surgery, I can now tell you, it's not so bad. I spent 1 night in the hospital and was released early the following afternoon. The worst part of the whole ordeal was the darned hospital bed....ouch, where do they buy those mattresses?

Tues. and Wed., I felt like I'd done about 800 situps. OUCH. Some good pain med, kept that under reasonable control, however. Already, just a couple of days later that pain is beginning to be alleviated. Sure, I'm sore and tire quickly and am spending way more time in bed than out, but it's all tolerable.

Hey! I'm so glad it wasn't too bad. That's a relief- I've heard about the 800 situps after-effect- weird. i'm having mine out May 17th and was pretty nervous so I'm happy for you!

Keep us posted as to how you are doing. Beverly

You'll get it soon enough...sorry. It feels that way because of the abdominal muscles..I have 4 small incisions. 1 through my belly button and 3 in upper rt quadrant of abdomen. Doc said that Friday I can shower and allow the bandages to wash off.

I've had no pain med today so far. Getting sore as the day wears on, and will probably give in and take something soon. I like being alert, and pain med puts me out.

FYI: My dh was of course with me Tues (surgery day) & Wed., but I was fine for him to go back to work today. I'm fairly independent, and you appear to be, too. Doc just said no lifting (don't remember how long). No driving for 1 wk. No work for 2 wks. I have a follow up appt with surgeon at exactly 1 wk, (of course unless I need him sooner).

I was rather nervous, too, I wish I had known. If your experience is anything like mine, you can go ahead and relax. Really.

I will keep you posted.

I know- I hate pain meds!!!!!! Tthat's what I'm dreading more than the actual surgery- they make me depressed, weepy and anxious.

2 weeks off from work? Yikes! My doc said a week. It's be interesting to see. As time goes on, will you keep us posted on how your digestion changes? I've heard some people have diarrhea for awhile after.

I'm glad you're doing well!

Ok, today is 4 days post-op. I'm feeling pretty good. Sore. But more alert, and ready to do something that will engage my mind, although not my body just yet. Last night I even slept well without the benefit of pain med.

Yesterday was a bad day, but it was more a general feeling of illness, than pain. Today is better again.

No serious digestive issues so far, but I've stuck to some fairly bland foods. I have had my Enjoy Life granola cereal every morning, and fruit...at least an apple and a banana every day. I love V8 juice and had a glass yesterday. That didn't sit well. Otherwise, a bland diet, and that has worked well for me.

jaten- Glad to hear you are doing OK. You sound like a trooper! Keep us posted. Here's to your healing, Beverly

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.

You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
