Please Help Interpret Blood Test Results

Just got my blood test results back:

Celiac Disease Comprehensive

Antigliadin Abs, IgA 1 Negative 0-4

Antigliadin Abs, IgG 1 Negative 0-9

t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 1 Negative 0-3

(Note: tTG has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificyt for gluten sensitive enteropathy.) WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????

t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG 1 Negative 0-5

Endomysial Antibody Negative

Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 137 Range 70-400

So, doc says it was negative, but does have ANY activity mean anything? I went gluten-free after the blood test and will wait to see how I feel in 30 days, but I just wonder what all this means. What does that blurb above mean? Did I have the right tests done?

Also, what percentage of people have biopsy positive celiac disease but negative blood tests?

Thanks,

Looks like they ran all the tests. They all seem normal. Not sure what the blurb means other than tTG being one of (or the most) specific for Celiac. You can have negative bloodwork and positive biopsy, I believe, at least it seems that way from what I have read.

Your blood work is negative for Celiac but that does not mean you don't have Celiac. I think at least 20% of people with it have negative blood test results. If you don't want to have the biopsy and see what that shows, you can try the diet and see if it helps you. Good luck. Oh and the note about Celiac specificity is on all standard tests and it means if your ttg is positive then you probably have Celiac and not diabetes of liver disease (those acct for the other 1%). That was the only test that came back positive for me and my biopsy showed I had a classic case of Celiac with a lot of villious atropy.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
