Bread Machines

I'm wondering if we really need one. My little girl really doesn't eat much but I hate to think of spending almost $5/loaf.

I looked at a "Breadman Corner Bakery" at Target yesterday. There is one for around $100 that has a "gluten-free" setting. Does anyone have experience with this? I also looked in a gluten free bread cookbook and the author says she doesn't need a machine cause she can watch it and put it in the oven when it looks ready to bake. But I'm a busy mom of of lots of kids and can't sit around watching bread rise.

So is the expense of a bread machine worth it and does bread turn out better with or without a machine? Also, is there a brand that is clearly the best for gluten-free bread?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I love my zor bread machine as I don't alway have the time to bake. I have heard that the breadman is okay but I can't say since I don't have it. I use Anna's mix in my Zor all the time and it is wonderful. I think the machine is for saving time... You can use them for making other stuff besides bread.I know the motor has to be strong for the gluten-free breads.

I was going to get a Breadman from Sears for about the same price then I went to Amazon to see the reviews and they were awful. So after more research, I bit the bullet and spent twice for the Zojirushi. Sometimes if you spend a little more in the beginning you end up saving in the end.

I know there are a few threads on bread machines, but here goes,

I have a cuisanart bread machine, and we love it. IT does cut down on the cost, and it makes a pretty decent loaf. It is one of the rare machines with a gluten free setting, but as you may readf in other threads, it is not necessary to have. Some think it burns all the bread, so they use the normal setting.

We use it to make bread for the kids as well, so it does double duty. If this is the case, make sure it is cleaned well after each use.

In the end, you have to weigh the cost of the store bought gluten-free bread against how long it will take the machine to pay for itself.

Hope that helps.

NB...we would not have bought one so quickly, but right after my dx, my MIL bought us one.

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.
