"safe" Spices?

Hello all,

I'm new to the group, and am a little confused. Maybe there's a link on the site somewhere, but I'm wondering which spices are considered "safe"?

Some folks have mentioned that spices contain salicylates, which might also be a problem, so I'm even more confused now.

Been sick with CFIDS for 8+ years, and now getting fibro the past 5 months, so need to turn this around. Actually getting quite scared.

Also very underweight -- need to stop this muscle wasting and hope to eventually gain maybe 15-20 lbs, but can't eat sugary foods due to a candida issue, and a problem digesting fats.

Hope you can help!

Thanks in advance, :)

Dan

The safest spices are the ones you buy singly, in bulk or in jars, with no additives. Make your own blends and you won't have to worry about anonymous ingredients glutening you.

Do you have reasons to believe you are sensitive to salicylates? If not, you won't need to avoid them. If you think you are, it would probably be best to find out for sure.

Hi Dan--welcome to the board!

From a gluten standpoint, McCormick spices will clearly list any gluten ingredients on the label--you only need to read them. That is the brand I use.

Thanks to all for your replies! I really appreciate them.

Wondering...is there a test for salicylate sensitivity???

And perhaps I should post this in another thread, but any tips for gaininig weight without resorting to processed foods or artificially flavored drinks like Ensure?

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
