Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone plans to go to this conference - - it looks like a really great day, lots of good speakers, etc. I definitely plan on going and wonder if anybody else wants to meet me there, in person!

Here's a link - - -

Anybody want to fly out? I have a really cozy guest room with your own private bath! And two dingos... :)

No- that's few years away. Let me see what I can finagle.

I just might go to this. Looks interesting and fun. Now, if I still have a job and don't have to have surgery around that time I'm set. :P

Oooh. A travel possibility that involves a chance to hobnob and eat with people in the know? An opportunity to connect voices and bodies with avatars? Hmmmmmm.

I've got a friend in Berkeley who's been asking me to come out....

lol... I'll be in CA at the time, but the other end of the state. :-P (I'll miss my five year anniversary because of my trip too. :-( )

Hey Susan:

I might be there. I have been 2 previous years. They have a really great lunch and lot's of samples of gluten-free foods.

Maybe those of us that are going can meet up somewhere?

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

I am going!! I'm actually brand new to all this, but I could not miss a chance to see/meet Danna Korn. I've spoken with her online a few times, and just to be around others who "get it" will be nice. Plus... I need a break from my kids. =)

Susan - Thanks for posting that. It looks very interesting. My sister is a doctor at Stanford. I could probably get her to come with me, except that she's having a baby at the end of August. Does anyone know if they have a conference every year?

Rikki Tikki Explorer

Karen:

It is every year. It's great, lot's of food, lot's of people.

Thanks Sally! I need to check my work schedule and see if I can get some time off. If not this year, next year for sure - and I'll drag my sis with me. She's suspicious that she may also be gluten intolerant.

DingoGirl Enthusiast

This is really great, girls! I'm so excited about it. Yes, we must meet each other in person! Karen - maybe the baby will come early - or late - - ;) would be great if she could go. Can she get us discounts? I am so broke.... My late father went to Stanford, undergrad and graduate school, so I went to all the kooky football games....such memories. So I'm really excited that it's held there.

The more the merrier! Let's all GO!

I've already reserved my hotel, and paid for my registration. Now I just have to get my plane tickets, and rent a car! =)

that's awesome, jayhawk!! Where do you live and how far will you travel for this wonderful event?

Unbelieveably, I'm in Kansas.... so it's going to be a big trip! My daughter and I are both newly dx as gluten intolerant. I'm not getting the answers and support that I would like, around here, so when I received the email about the conference, I told my dh that I felt it was my duty, as a parent, to go and educate myself by those who ARE educated on the subject. =)

I'm actually very excited, but nervous about traveling alone - and driving in California! =)

Well, here's a tip I can give you about travel. See if there is ANY way possible you can fly into the San Jose airport (about a 1/2 hour south of Palo Alto) instead of San FRancisco - - - that place, and driving out of there, is a freaking nightmare!!! And you don't want to start out your trip wtih a nervous breakdown...

I'm so excited for you, and we'll have to have an area where all of us from this forum meet up!

San Jose's the closest airport, but if you can't get a good flight there (don't see why that'd be a problem though), Oakland would probably be easier than San Francisco. I grew up in San Jose and used SFO before, so never really thought of it as a traffic nightmare, more than any other major airport, though. :-P

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

Yep, when I've been getting my quotes, I've been looking at San Jose rather than San Fran!! =)

I've got a decent quote, now I just have to wait for my paycheck at the end of the month!!!!

DingoGirl Enthusiast

Oh yeah, Tiffany, totally forgot about Oakland.

I grew up in Fresno - and then lived the sleepy tourist burg of Monterey for many years - - driving in San Francisco has always, I believe every single time until the last few years, had me in tears..... a total nightmare for the non-native! and jayhawk is from Kansas!!

lol... driving almost anywhere else makes me scream bloody murder at people who can't go over the speed limit, are too chicken to merge at freeway speeds, and let everyone and their brother move over before continuing on. :-) maybe just living in california is it's own "aggresive driving" course. :-P SF, itself, is definitely worse since it's SO dense. definitely avoiding SF (outside of public transportation) is probably a good idea, and doable in that area.

funny, I never think of Montery as sleepy or touristy... I suppose it is, but we'd go there for dinner once or twice a month. good seafood. :-)

dlp252 Apprentice

Cool, all the way from Kansas! How cool! I'm pretty sure I'll be there, so getting together would be great! Besides, I have to meet the keeper of our wonderful dingos. :D I should go ahead and register now so that I will be SURE to go, lol.

LOL!!! Yep, I think you're on to something with the "aggressive driving" course. I will NOT drive in SF!

DingoGirl Enthusiast

OH dear....I think I'm one of those (reformed) aggressive drivers.....17 - - that's right - - 17 speeding tickets in my driving history (not one for the last 10 years, though! )....major tailgater...people hated me...

Yes, Donna, you must come!!! Wish I could bring the dingos....they'll be hanging at my best friend's house, in San Jose.

Oh Tiffany, try living in Monterey for 7 years....pretty sleepy and touristy - you just have to make your own fun and find lots of friends! did so much hiking there....Great places to eat, too, and I ate out many times per week....those were the days..... :)

jayhawkmom Enthusiast

OK, I'm from the KC Metro, so I've got the agressive driving thing down pretty well. Though, I'm sure I still don't rank up there at all with Californians!;)

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
