Thanks if anyone knows of a good dentist in the metro Atlanta area. I don't care if they know about Celiac or not. I'm just looking for someone competent.

Thanks if anyone knows of a good dentist in the metro Atlanta area. I don't care if they know about Celiac or not. I'm just looking for someone competent.

I have a great dentist: Dr. Ben W. Jernigan, Jr.

404-378-1466

Suite 340

315 West Ponce de Leon Avenue

Decatur, Georgia 30030

He's up to date on all the latest, but I don't know about celiac. If he doesn't know about it, I'm sure he'd be willing to learn. My next appointment isn't until October, so I haven't asked him yet. Besides, I'm still waiting on my Entero Lab results.

Oh Nisla - I thought you were recommending your Dentist.........oh well, maybe we'll both find a new one. I just had dinner and I'm in so much pain - did not chew on bad side but the hot/cold thing is bad and that starts throbbing. I can't take any more Aleve until 9 pm. I'm so glad DH will also change dentists now after the way I was treated today (posted in the related illness thread). So as soon as this issue is fixed I'll be able to switch to someone competent.

Dr. Terry Lemons in the Duluth area. (770) 418-1414

Tell him I recommended you (it might help, he's a good friend of mine). He's a little familiar with celiac just from me, that just means he knows it exists.

dr. james lamb corner of johnson ferry road and post oak tritt. sorry don't have the #. both products they use to clean teeth are gluten free.

Thanks everyone but CarlaB I owe you a hug!!!! Duluth is close to me so that will be great if he's taking new patients. I'll tell him you sent me! Thanks again!

nah Tiffany, my old dentist isn't taking new patients and it's been so long since I've seen him they consider me a "new patient" even though I've been going to him since I was 11... grrrrrr

floridanative Community Regular

Oh - that's bad Nisla. We just got off the phone with the ins. company and it seems that I'm considered an emergeny and so if the dentist doesn't call me tomorrow I will switch dos if someone can re-do the fillings before the other jerk gets to me next week. If I can't into anyone else, I'll get the jerk to do the work and then I'll switch. I'm so happy DH is switching from him too. He can't get over how they treated me today and how they don't seem to care that I'm in serious pain, even on Aleve. I was upset but now I'm just plain old mad.

Truthfully, in my experience it has never been a good idea to have someone who did something incompetently the first try time fix the problem!

Exactly. I decided if I need a root canal and the dentist just take out his fillings, put in liners and then refill I could still have pain and need the root canal in the end. So it warrants a second opinion at the very least. Dr Lemons doesn't take my ins. so Cigna called around for me today (yes an insurance company did something helpful for a change) and found someone that can take me today at 2. Not suprisingly my old dentist office did not call me yet today even though DH left a message for them last night that they need to take care of me now - not next week. Guess he really cares about our business. <_<

Glad you're getting it taken care of. Too bad he doesn't take your insurance. He's a good guy.

Well I just got back from seeing my new and improved dentist :) . He is wonderful and actually has a personality unlike my ex-dentist. New doc did some extensive procedures to figure out that I have a crack in my tooth and I need a root canal and hopefully that's all. He was able to coat my tooth with something which is a temp. fix but it helped with the hot/cold sens. a lot. Why the other guy didn't offer to do this I have no idea and it matters not now. My root canal is this Thursday so for those of you who pray, please say one for me Thursday. Does anyone know why someone with two crowns or more would need to wear a bite guard while spleeping? This new doc recommends it and I have never heard of such.

BYW, the old denstist office called when I was at the new one. They just said they were short one assistant and would get to me as soon as they possibly could. That was all.......no mention of an actual day they can take me. I'm not going to call and let them know they are no longer our dental office. I'll do that IF and when they ever call me back to help.

CarlaB Enthusiast

He probably has reason to suspect that you grind your teeth. That is the only reason I can think of needing a bite guard. I wear an appliance at night, it's not as bad as it sounds. In fact, I look forward to it because I'm having my TMJ problem fixed and it's more comfortable with the nite guard.

floridanative Community Regular

Well I don't grind my teeth and he told me that was not why he was recommending it....I'll ask more questions later when I get the root canal. Thanks - I feel better knowing I probably do not need the guard. Sometimes people look at me and let's just say they may determine that I can afford some things others can't and so they recommend them, even if I don't need them. I have this problem frequently so I have to really research why someone is suggesting a service etc. My dh is an insomniac - he says too that I do not grind my teeth so if the guard is used to conrol only that, I'm pretty sure it's unecessary. This is a very small office that seem to treat lots of patients that don't even have insurance. The guard is $535, my cost $135. Now I realize the woman up front was really pushing the guard on me which I thought odd and of course it was. Geez - I may switch dentists again after the work is done this month. My ex-dentist is the only one I've ever had that didn't try and push all sorts of needless things on me.

CarlaB Enthusiast

I'd base your decision on the dentist rather than the woman in the front! If she recommends something to you, run it by the dentist and ask why. There may be other uses for the night guard that I don't know about. Maybe she saw "cracked tooth" and assumed you were grinding; I have a cracked tooth that's likely from my grinding. The dentist would be able to tell from your teeth if you did grind as they get worn down.

floridanative Community Regular

Sorry - I didn't explain what happened correctly. The dentist brought it up to me but said the guard is good for anyone with crowns, not just for people who grind their teeth. So the woman up front gave me a print out of all my charges for root canal/crown and the bite guard was on there. I said I probably wasn't getting that and she then started really pushing it like a salesperson that my cost was super low. It may be but I don't have $135 to waste. Anyway, I may end up having to switch docs again but for now, I need my tooth fixed and then we'll see.

Ah, now I understand. If he's trying to sell you one that's not made especially for your own mouth, you can get those at the drugstore for twenty bucks! I'm actually not opposed to someone trying to be a good businessman, that means you will get good service since he's trying to run a good business. That's what you didn't like about your other dentist. On the other hand, if he's just trying to push things on you all the time, that's different. I guess you'll have to just see how it goes. I have no crowns, so I don't know about the bite guard being needed or not.

This is not my week. My root canal could not be completed today. There was a 'complcation' and I was sent home after two hours with some bright white temp. filling over some cotton. I have to go back next week to have procedure completed. My jaw is sore as anyone's would be with it forced open that long. Now I have to take 30 penicillan pills I was rx'd. I've never even heard of taking 30 antibiotic pills, 4 a day until they're gone. Has anyone else heard of that and has anyone heard of a root canal not being able to be completed in one trip? When I went in today I didn't have an infection. Last year I did have an infection and so it took the guy 2.5 hours to do the root canal then but still, at least he finished. Today their only explanation was that one string like thing they put in would not go in correctly and the only tool that they could use to rectify was in the sterilization machine so they could not use it. So I thought they would ask me to come back late today or tomorrow but nope, gotta wait a week and make sure I don't have any other problems before I go back next Wed. I'm going to try and force some lunch down and then I'm going back to bed. Hopefullly someone out there will know more about this than I do so I won't have to worry all week as to what the heck is going on. I'll try and get back online tonight if I can.

Guest nini

awww man, Tiff... you sure are having a rough time with this... that sucks... feel better and get some rest.

floridanative Community Regular

Thanks Nisla - I'm feeling much better now, mouth/jaw is sore but 4 Advils every 4 hours is keeping that to a minimum. I see no dental experts have logged in with their opinion on what happened today. Now DH gets home and thinks that I should not have to wait a week to go back for the job to be completed but I told him that is their protocol. I did think to ask why I had to wait so long, of course. One thing is for sure, I'll probably lose a pound from not eating today. I'm going to try and have some cooled down black eyed peas for dinner and DH is making me jello tonight so I can have that later and tomorrow. My mouth is so raw inside from the latex and such that I can't eat anything but mushy foods. As I don't care for too many of those, hence the weight loss.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Sorry you're feeling bad still. I don't know anything about root canals.

floridanative Community Regular

Thanks. I will probably be feeling great tomorrow but still should chew only with one side of my mouth for a week which I find challenging to do. The soreness and throbbing will probably be gone either by tomorrow if it's like last year. I guess the bright side is next week's session should be a cakewalk compared to today. DH brought up a good point after he thought about it. He said, at least the doc wants to do the job right. The nurse questioned him as to couldn't he just leave whatever he was unhappy with as is, and he replied that he coudd not, since then it would not be done correctly. That's reassuring to me. Have a goo night everyone. I'm tired and I'll probably turn in 'senior' early tonight.

Isonic Newbie

Hi Floridanative, I wish I'd seen your post before tonight. See my posting on the other thread. Open Original Shared Link about root canals...

Isonic Newbie

All of my six root canals took eight weeks to three months for the infection in my jaw to drain, and hence for the treatment to be concluded.

I didn't know my immune system was already compromised with celiac disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis. I didn't know at the time that mercury amalgam fillings and the linings of the root canals were poisoning me and causing necrosis rather than draining away abscesses. I didn't know then that far from fixing my teeth the dentist was making things much, much worse. When I finally had all those necrotising root canals, and the teeth, taken out, the biocompatible dentist said that had I waited a few more months I would have needed reconstructive jaw surgery.

Please check out biocompatible dentists (Google) in your area. It's not too late to save yourself a great deal of trouble, ill-health and pain.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds
    • Colleen H
Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️
