Sour Taste In Mouth After Eating Gluten?

Does anyone else get a really awful, persistent (lasting hours) sour taste in their mouth after eating gluten? Is this a Celiac thing or does everyone who eats wheat get this? I have been trying to eat gluten in order to prepare to have a blood test done, and this taste in my mouth is so gross!

Perhaps that is why when I have taken LIQUID IMODIUM in the past I get a funny taste in my month.

LIQUID IMODIUM has GLUTEN in it. I found out after calling the company a few months ago. I had no idea why I became reactive, funny taste and the DH rash of celiac disease.

hineini -- I feel bad for you you are faced with the gluten challange. I couldn't do it. My seizure are frightening to say the least.

i do not have celiac, but i also get that sour taste in my mouth after eating certain things---so i'd say it is probably not a celiac thing----but i'd like to know why i get it. i've never heard anyone else mention this.

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
