"enterolab"

From what I am reading here, it appears that "Enterolab" is the best and most fool proof method for gluten intolerance testing..via stool sample? More so than endoscopy? Is this correct? If so, does one have to be actively eating gluten to show positive? And is it that Enterolab is more costly than other forms of testing that it may not be the first choice by a Dr.?

I have been referred to a GI Dr. and am expecting to be pushed for a biopsy..and want to be armed with information to avoid that if possible by suggesting Enterolab instead.

My understandng is this:

Most docs don't do any stool testing, as they do not think it to be 'proven' -they are only conerned with antibodies in the blood -

Enterloab's founder, Dr. Fine, believes that antibodies show up first in the stool - so, one can have a negative blood test but positive stool test...

You may want to read the testimonials at their site:

Enterolab doesn't bill insurance companies....that is the clients responsibility. Since most of the cost is not covered due to deductibles and such, people need to pay out of pocket which could deter some. Although the cost on endoscopies I imagine is much greater. I don't know the fees and what portion is covered by insurance so the cost may be a mute point. I had my family tested and didn't go through the doctor.

Check out the site like Gina suggested. I am another satsified customer and am thankful that my family will be spared years of suffering because of the service he offers. We didn't have obvious symptoms.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
