Yeast Flakes?

Someone very nice posted some recipes for cashew cheese stuff (sooooo sorry I'm blanking on your name!!) and now I can't find the recipes! I printed them out, went to the store and bought the ingredients for one of the recipes...and left the recipes in the cart! <_<

Anyway, I'll find the recipes eventually, but one of the ingredients was listed as "yeast flakes." I went to Wegman's to find them, and not only did I not find them, no one knew what they were!

I ended up buying the jar of yeast, uh, pellets, I guess, but is that the same thing?

Edit: I found the recipes...I had saved them to my puter. Doh!

I had been looking for them also and couldn't find them in any grocery store. I finally found them at my health food store but they were in the section with the vitamins, not the food. Ask at a health food store. They are not the same thing as the yeast you buy in the grocery store to make bread etc. Hope this helps!

They are totally different than the yeast you bake with.

I'm not sure where you live but Fred Meyer/Krogers carries them in the natural food bulk isle. Wild Oats has them in the bulk isle. Co-op have them in the bulk section. Health food stores would probably be the same.

I haven't looked for them pre bagged so if you find them that way let me know please.

You don't have to use them but it gives the "cheese" a more cheesy flavor. I last made mac and cheese without it and the kids liked it just fine. We are used to cashew cheese though.

i use bob's red mill - they are made in the gluten-free facility. i got them at wegman's.

Matilda,

I didn't use anything, just left them out. Remember, we are used to cashew cheese and I don't think the flavor was that much different. You can experiment with different seasonings to see how you like them too. If you don't get used to the flavor with the yeast flakes you will not have anything to miss. :)

The Nacho Cheese doesn't use them and the seasonings (chili powder, I use cumin or homemade chili powder) make up the difference.

I don't know if they upset my stomach last time (could be cc) or if it was the chicken italian sausage I used. We were all fine this last time but there was no yeast flakes or sausage.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
